With swagger in their steps, the Rams arrive in New Mexico as heavy favorites. Pete Thomas gets the start, leaving a grumbling McPeek on the sidelines. Colorado State defense dominates the Lobos on their first drive, leaving Thomas to take the field with excellent field position. On the second play of the drive Chris Nwoke breaks through the defense for a 28-yard rush. TJ Borcky receives his third touchdown pass of the year from Thomas on a short 5-yarder. It was truly downhill from there for the Lobos. Pete Thomas racked up over 350 passing yards, throwing 4 touchdown passes to earn Player of the Game honors. New Mexico was simply intimidated. After falling behind so quickly, all focus and intensity was lost. Wile’s offense continued to pile up stats in this blowout victory.

First home game of the season is versus Hawaii. Coach Wile’s first chance to prove himself. They’re coming off a hell of a week, defeating our rival Colorado 43 – 35. On top of that, it’s pouring rain and the winds are over 10 MPH. Kicking off first as usual, Moniz leads the opposing team to a touchdown on the first drive. Already feeling the pressure, Wile sends Thomas out onto the field to run the 60 Slide. TJ Borcky makes a play yet again for a 36-yard pass. Rams fans would shake their heads on the very next play, as Thomas is picked off by huge linebacker Daley. On Hawaii’s next drive, Moniz is picked by Kawulok. This sets up a fantastic drive led by Chris Nwoke. He just ran it straight up the field for a touchdown on three plays. An action-packed first quarter comes to an end, with the score tied 7-7. Unfortunately for Hawaii, they were just not up for these kind of weather conditions. Borcky goes down in the second quarter, but Pete Thomas & Co. end up destroying Hawaii in the next three quarters. Thomas is awarded his second consecutive Player of the Game award, throwing for over 300 yards and another 4 touchdowns.
The critics have nothing left to say about Coach Jeremiah Wile. Three games into the season, already tieing last year’s wins record. Add to that the fact that Pete Thomas is playing better than ever in Wile’s Run & Shoot system, and that Colorado State is leading the nation in offensive yards and passing yards 3 weeks in. Over 40 PPG doesn’t hurt either. There’s already talk of him replacing current Head Coach Fairchild. Next week is the Rocky Mountain Showdown versus Colorado, and that would be the perfect opportunity to raise his prestige that much more.
