TJ Borcky making one of his team-high 60 receptions.
After yet another rainy day and dismal showing, the Rams still manage to come away with another win. But over a poor team like San Jose State, 3 points is not a wide enough margin. Pete has not looked the same in practice or games since his slip-up after halftime of the Utah State game. Many say he is on the edge of losing his starting position, even though he leads the league in passing yards. Matt Yemm receives this week’s Player of the Game honors in a 17-14 win. The Rams’ next home game versus Fresno State is an extremely important one. Although 1-2, Fresno State opens conference play versus CSU. They were pre-season favorites to win the conference, along with San Diego State. Now that the Rams are in the discussion for winning the WAC, they are in for a tough battle with the Bulldogs.

Thankfully it was a nice day for a change. Jeremiah felt the team had had a good week of practice, too. The opening drive by the Rams was beautiful, Pete throwing 6-8 and Chris running 6 yards in for the score. Unfortunately for the Rams, Fresno State has Robbie Rouse. Robbie’s strong running game has them tying the game at 7-7 one drive apiece. The next two drives on either side are stopped quickly. Right when it looks like the Rams are going to punch it in again, a linebacker picks Pete off. Karma strikes back and two plays later, they lose the ball on a fumble. Pete throws another interception. Coach Wile at this point has lost a lot of patience for the league’s leading passer. After another stop, he’s sent back onto the field along with ringing ears. He throws his third interception of the half. Wile shows Pete the bench and calls on a beaming MJ McPeek. MJ has been waiting for his chance to make up for his performance in the Rams’ first game. Fresno State marches up the field but only gets a field-goal to go up 10-7. With 2:35 in the half, MJ leads the rams to a touchdown to pull ahead 14-10 at the half. The Bulldogs fumble on their first drive of the half, setting the Rams up with great field position. MJ throws a short pass to seldom-seen tightend Cameron Moss for a touchdown. The Rams are up 21-10 before Fresno storms back on their next drive to make it 21-17. Matt Yemm is left wide open in the middle of the field, and MJ finds him for a 56-yard pass, his third consecutive touchdown drive. Unfortunately for MJ, on his next out he goes down with a strained pectoral. Pete Thomas is reluctantly sent back out onto the field. He is automatically sacked on his first play. 3-and-out. Fresno State gets nothing and punts us back the ball at the start of the 4th 28-17. Chris Nwoke carries us up the field again to get his third touchdown. The Bulldogs score on their next drive, and convert the two-point to make it 35-25. Their onside kick fails, but Pete fumbles on the first play to give them the ball at our 46. They get dangerously close, but on 4th and 4 Sisson makes a great stop. Pete throws another pick to give them the ball at our 19. Right when it’s starting to look like this game is going to be decided by the next onside kick, Marcus Shaw steps up and captures the game-sealing interception. Colorado State wins the hard fought game, and Chris receives Player of the Game honors.
CB Marcus Shaw seals the deal for Colorado State.

The Colorado State Rams continue their WAC domination with an easy win over New Mexico State. Despite his horrible last game, and McPeek’s excellent one, Pete Thomas gets the start again. Many believe that this will be his last one. Coach Jeremiah Wile made a statement after the blowout 47-21 victory. He said that both Pete and MJ should look forward to a gauntlet type of practice this bye week, with the winner getting the next game’s start. Chris Nwoke receives Player of the Game honors for the third time this season, now leading the team in the award. Unfortunately for him and the team, he went down in the 4th quarter. Look for Raymond Carter to start in his place for the next two weeks.
