Madden Player Portraits (Particularly in Franchise Mode)
Posted on May 25, 2009 at 03:43 AM.
I wonder how the player portraits will get treated in Franchise Mode. Some of the things that have been happening in the past annoy me greatly; i mean examples like tons of Green Bay players and KC players. They'd take their profile photo wearing their teams jersey, but this also means that down the road when they get traded in Franchise Mode, you could still see this jersey forever even though they'd be now on very different teams.

A possible solution for this would be to eshcew player photo's altogether and simply rely on the 3d model of the player's face for photo's. This would be even more excellent because if a player's appearance would change (like grow dreadlocks, beards etc) it would be reflected up to date in their in game avatar. It would definitely rock if all of a sudden a player in franchise mode would don a different look all on its own, without user intervention, and this be reflected in his player portrait.
It's also beneficial when showing in-game lineups with live faces for the starters, just like TV stations do now.

Of course this also means we'd need a competent edit-a-player utility. Hopefully Ian & Co. got the message that we the players want nothing but customization, realism and authenticity out of a Madden title.

C'mon guys! Don't drop the ball on this one!

I totally agree with your 3D model idea. Basically rendering the player's potrait photo the same way mlb 09 the show does with your RTTS player.

That will definility be the best way, but can you imagine how some people on this site would bitch and moan about player faces.

I liked what NBA 2K8 did...pictures of random joes for randomly generated rookies. I wish Madden would do that for year 2020, etc.

I like what NFL2K5 did: created a program that catalogues every player face & photo in the game then parcels them together to create vastly different faces.

If for nothing else, I support your idea just to get rid of that moronic "shadow" of Maddens that makes any self/machine created player look like a unlocked boss on Streetfighter.
