Intro

I was once a fairly avid gamer. I used to play a ton of games and play often. I once remember playing Chrono Trigger for 2 straight days; my hands remained in the form of the controller hold for at least a week afterwards.
But something happened along the way, and I'm not sure why. The SNES was the last console that I actually owned. I have played more recent iterations of consoles, but these are always through friends and stuff. But I myself have not had a chance to play any kind of console games whenever I pleased.
No more. I'm done with my console hiatus. I held out long enough to allow for all the tech to mature properly. I think I am ready to return to the wonderful world of console gaming, smack dab in the middle of the HDTV age.

Previous games that I like:
N64 - Pilotwings
PS2 - Tekken Tag Tournament
PS1 - Gran Turismo 2, Xenogears, Metal Gear Solid
SNES - Chrono Trigger
NES - River City Ransom

After the SNES days, which all you had to do was buy the thing and plug the pass through RF adapter and you were up and running, things have complicated up massively. Its such a headache nowadays to connect the damn system to a damn TV set and actually be able to play it in glorious resolution with amazing sound. It takes a good amount of time and expertise to get everything (and they sure seem to have increased in numbers) running along smoothly.
I have done tons of research on the matter, and concluded that the gradual approach may be the best approach to get back in the game. For one, it saves me money. For two, it allows me to weed through misinformation and crap all the more easily, in order to be able to get the best possible product at the best possible price.
One situation where this has been clearly beneficial to me happened just last week: after tons of research, I settled upon a

as I was convinced it was the best receiver I could get. But lo and behold, upon some further research, I settled upon this

as actually being the best receiver for the job I need it for. This was just an example.

So, what exactly am I trying to do? Well, for one, I need to build from the ground up. Therefore, I think I will outlay my monthly purchasing plans in this blog, and embark on my crusade to become a gamer again.

My first aqcuisition has to be displays related, since I am still in the TV dark ages. I am planning to buy one of these

because it can drive the PS3 and also my PC. For now, I need it do be dual purpose (again, budgetary reasons).

Hopefully, by the end of this year I will have all the equipment in place for me to do some serious HD gaming.

Peace.
