Early Atlanta Offensive Struggles In Spring Training
Posted on September 19, 2012 at 07:32 PM.
Although the Atlanta Braves has played two spring games, the offense is struggling early. Is it too early to worry? Maybe or maybe not.

In their first spring game on road against the Houston Astros on Feburary 27, 2012, the Braves left 4 runners in scoring position. Then on March 3, 2012 the Braves only knotted two hits, despite the win over the Detroit Tigers. In the game against the Astros the only offensive scoring was by Heyward's solo-homer in the 1st inning. However, in game against the Tigers the only run the Braves scored was the winning homerun off of Chipper Jones in extra innings. In the two games combined, the Braves have only scored 2 runs.

If the Atlanta Braves want to win ballgames in the Regular Season, then they need to find ways to score runs. We know sometimes things just don't go your way, but the Braves do need to be a little bit more aggressive on the base paths. In the two games only one stolen base attempt has been made, and it was by Michael Bourn who was caught stealing in the game against the Astros.

There is still alot of Spring left, and alot of work to be done to be ready for the Regular Season. I noticed in all the Braves' at-bats, the batters have been too patient at the plate. Yes it's good to be selective of your pitches, but alot of good pitches have went unswingable. Atlanta just needs to put the ball in play and see what happens.
