The Fighting Irish hosted USC in a night game in South Bend as the Trojans came into this game 6-1 on the year while Notre Dame was 5-2. A win would give the Irish the same record as the Trojans and put a feather in the cap of the Irish's season.
The game started off slow as neither team could manage any offense that was until midway through the quarter as Kyle Brindza would net a 46 yard field goal giving the Irish a 3-0 lead. Notre Dame would increase that lead later in the quarter as George Atkinson would break off a 48 yard run putting Notre Dame up 10-0.
USC would cut into that lead in the second as Cody Kessler would find Joel Curtis for a TD strike making it 10-7. Notre Dame would increase there lead as Cam McDaniel would break out an 86 yard run and Golson would hit Walker putting Notre Dame up 24-7 going into the half.
USC would cut into the lead in the fourth as Kessler would find Soma Vainuku for the TD strike making it 24-14. Notre Dame would answer as Steven Hand would score on a sweep putting Notre Dame up 31-14. USC would cut it back to a 10 point lead as Anthony Barber would run it in from 3 yards out. But a late field goal by Notre Dame would seal the game as the Irish would win 34-21.
