With chemistry and morale soaring higher than ever this season I am up against the NEMESIS, the LA Lakers. All the off-season moves have been tiered towards giving the Jazz a chance to make it against the aging but still tall-as-mountains Lakers.
Yeah, sure.
Kobe Bryant proves to be unstoppable from the start and ends up with 51 pts on 66% shooting (22-33) as well as 2 steals.
The evil Catalan pitches in another 19 on 8-15 shooting and gets 16 rebounds.
In mid 2nd quarter I am down by over 20 and it's playing catch up all game long, looking for ways to beat the Lakers. Which, against their subs is possible. In the fourth quarter, when I cut the deficit to six, Purple Devil Bryant comes back in and regardless of being double-teamed, contested, or not, he finds a way to go to the basket or the free-throw line.
The thing is: I was intimidated from the start. I made bad pass selections and had a huge amount of turn-overs (especial against the starting 5 - 18 steals for the Lakers amongst them!). So I made them run and score easy points, otherwise it might have ended differently.
I lost the game (123 : 112), but now I know that I have a fight chance and I get three more chances to figure out a strategy that eventually will get me past the Lakers in the play-offs (hey - the Jazz ALWAYS play the Lakers in the play-offs).
Williams 23, 4 reb, 16 ast
Okur 22, 5 reb
Jefferson 21, 5 reb, 2 blk
Miles 11, 3 reb, 2 ast
Millsap 10, 3 reb, 2 ast
Kirilenko 7, 4 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk
