Utah Jazz NBA 2K11 All-Star Association
This is my personal account for a NBA 2K11 Association on All-Star with no sliders changed. The goal obviously is to win the first title for the Jazz, and making it a challenge to do so.

After a myriad of games the patch came and I lost interest because behavior changed so much (subjectively). Now, with the All-Star Settings almost on Simulation (reduced CPU clutch and "make bumped shot") the game feels pretty much real (and great again ).

After whipping the Sixers the big test was the LA Lakers for the much anticipated battled for pole position in the Western Conference.

Oh my, the Lakers are so dangerous. Kobe was hot right from the start and when ... Read More

The win in Miami was one of the early highlights of this year's Jazz season (the one in my Association, not the Paul Millsap explosion we saw in real life). Now eager to test my team and see whether I could repeat against the 16-6 Eastern Conference leading team, I was looking forward to the rematch.

As against Dallas it turned out to be a very close match all-around. Instead of falling behind I managed to carve out little spurts and get ahead by up to 10 points in the first half. ... Read More

After the grueling 109 : 105 loss against Dallas the next opponent was due to be victimized.

Coming into a game with a surprisingly good record of 13-8 the Memphis Grizzlies were already handicapped by an ailing Rudy Gay. Then, three minutes into the first quarter a hard foul on Zach Randolph left him writhing on the floor. I never saw this in a video game - he actually rolled on the floor in pain - and of course nobody came to help him. With their second star out for 2-4 weeks the ... Read More

After an easy 124 : 98 win against Indiana the next heavyweight knocked on the door, the Dallas Mavericks.

I turned out to be a closely fought game until the end, with neither team able to make a run to get a decisive advantage.

The Mavericks clogged up the middle and forced an unusual number of bad shots from the Jazz (mainly Williams, Okur).

My fellow countryman Dirk Nowitzki was nearly impossible to guard in the clutch and scored a heart-breaking 28 pts ... Read More

The loss vs. the Lakers made the Jazz 9-8 - much in danger of going back to the .500 mark. Next up are the Los Angeles Clippers, whose dynamic duo of Griffin and Kaman gave me a really hard time and my fifth loss earlier in the month.

And they came out of the gates blazing again! Within 8 minutes in the first quarter they had a sixteen point lead while their basket looked nailed shut for me. Kaman and Griffin weren't that much of a problem this time around (my strategy was to have ... Read More

In the previous two games I pushed the win streak to 6 vs fighting Kings (103 : 99 ) and a blowout game vs. Paul-less Hornets, who made a pointless run vs. my reserves to end the game 116 : 108. Looks like another bad year for the Hornets with Paul suffering a season-ending MCL injury.

With chemistry and morale soaring higher than ever this season I am up against the NEMESIS, the LA Lakers. All the off-season moves have been tiered towards giving the Jazz a chance to make it against ... Read More

[There are a few accounts missing - I'll add them later, but I'd like to do this while the game is relatively fresh in my mind.]

Staying at home has been good for the Jazz. Three wins in a row, but now they are headed onto the road for a back to back game against the Portland Trailblazers - and a reunion with former Jazzman Wesley Matthews.

Starting the first quarter the Blazers stay true to their name: While the Jazz are doing okay, the Blazers hit 75% of their shots ... Read More

With the first game of my South-East Coast trip yielding better results than expected I was quite relaxed for the subsequent Orlando Magic game.

My strategy was to put Jefferson on the 4-spot, leaving the defensive work to Millsap initially. Playing Howard manually and keeping him off the boards (not allowing him to cut, boxing out, etc.) worked well most of the time.

At the same time I set the defenders of the biggest outside threats to "Play Tight" and "Deny Ball", which ... Read More

After the disappointing ending of the Clippers game the team traveled to South Beach with the game already written off.

The Heat are a time you simply cannot keep from scoring, so the game plan was to abuse their 1 and 5 position and keep in the game as long as we could. Defensively I would try to keep Bosh off the boards in order to limit his effectiveness (wow, he does have some serious range!).

They came out cold and I jumped out to a 33 : 25 first quarter, adding another ... Read More

With a win under my belt I am confident I can get another, as the Los Angeles Clippers are not a team that generates fear in their opponents. Well, maybe that is going to change.

I had seen their tall tandem of Kaman (who played on the German national team along with Dirk Nowitzki!) and Gryphon. I mean Griffin. But I underestimated their impact on the game. 28/26 pts, 13/15 rebs plus 4 ast, 2 stl, 5 blks on a combined 24-37 shooting proved to be unattainable for my tired squad (or ... Read More

Game #5. The team is excited, they feel that have been building chemistry and things are going their way. The opponent are the Golden State Warriors.

And what a game it turns out to be!

6 and a half minutes from the 4th quarter buzzer the Jazz lead 87 : 82 after a wild surge, but the Warriors bounce back and (dang, Gametrack is broken) the lead changes back and forth. 27 seconds to go, the Warriors lead 98 : 96.

Deron Williams takes the ball, feints and changes ... Read More

Game #4 against the rather weakish Toronto Raptors. On top of their miserable ratings starting point guard Jose Calderon is injured, generating an exploitable match-up for Deron Williams.

Unfortunately the set-up makes me complacent (also playing late at night, not concentrating well) and I fall behind in the second quarter 56: 45.

Bargnani poses the largest threat in that and he is a huge match-up problem, because despite "Play Tight" and "Deny Ball", Jefferson proves ... Read More

Game #3. Against the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder.

I feel my offense is clicking, mainly fueled by a 21 pts first half of Okur, who I finalled used as sixth man from the bench. Halfway through the second quarter I am up by 16 points. Durant had a good first quarter, but I squashed it quite successfully by putting Kirilenko on him manually and staying in his pocket, even blocking the odd shot.

By Half-time the Thunder managed a small run to pull within 10: 46 : 56.

Now this is eerie.

Going into the second game against the suns I only practiced a little bit, mostly dribbling moves. What I told myself was to reduce the numbers of turnovers.

All in all the Jazz played a good game - 12 TOs, 50% FG, we got more to the free throw line and scored over 100 pts.

It just wasn't enough, though. PHOENIX scored on the outside, Nash dished 20 assists, even on some of those long streaking passes that infuriate you (because the CPU ... Read More

An automatic Blog on the Operations Sports Arena?

That calls for a report on the Association efforts. As a Jazz fan, it can only be about getting the first championship for the Jazz. 82 games on All-Star - it's going to be a challenge. For some reason the preseason games couldn't be played - wth? So after going a bit of one-on-one with Deron Williams and Al Jefferson the first game called - against the Denver Nuggets.

And what a massacre it was. A 20 point defeat (87 : ... Read More
