Mitch Richmond, Victim of the Jordan Era
Posted on July 21, 2011 at 01:02 PM.
Due to Michael Jordan's unattainable brilliance many very good players from his era were overshadowed. Guys like Clyde Drexler and John Stockton were rudely upstaged but one guy who is almost completely lost in time is Mitch Richmond.

Simply put, Richmond was a master of scoring. His arsenal was extremely unpredictable. Three pointers, pull ups going left or right, back downs, spins off drives, fadeaways, step backs out of the post, and pump fakes galore. And he was certainly active without the ball setting strong screens and making weak side cuts. Defensively, he was mediocre but not as bad as some guys currently in the Hall of Fame.

Richmond played out of the spotlight for much of his career. In Golden State, he played 3 on 3 basketball with Hardaway and Mullin but didn't have much success. With Sacramento, he was almost a one man show with incompetent teammates. His big moment in the spotlight came in the Atlanta Olympics where his expert scoring helped the U.S. win Gold.

This guy was a more dynamic scorer than Chris Mullin, who was just a great shooter. And if Mullin is good enough for the Hall then why not Richmond?

I couldn't agree more. He was a monster in his prime.

Typically, we're on opposite ends of arguments. BUT on this one, I'm 100% with you. If Mullin can be a hall of fame player, then why can't Richmond?

Brady wassup man. Long time. But this was a great write-up. I also wonder why RIchmond doesn't get as much love as Mullin.
