Dave DeBusschere, a Forgotten Great
Posted on July 19, 2011 at 04:10 PM.
When you think of the great Knicks Title teams you think of Reed's courage, Frazier's coolness, and Monroe's fancy moves. One crucial player who seems to be lost in time is Dave DeBusschere. He didn't post huge numbers, usually 16 points and 11 rebounds. And the Fan Rater on Basketball Reference ranks him at #101 among the all time players. That is far too low.

DD's offense consisted of bullseye jumpers from distance and powerhouse drives to the basket. His handling was tight and his passes were on target. He was a great rebounder and was fast running the floor. But its his all time great man to man defense that I'll always remember. His D was strong and confrontational, he never left his check's body alone.

Truly an all time great player.

Great post. I've always been a DeBusschere fan. To me, he's an earlier version of Kevin McHale. And if you talk to players from that era, many will say that Dave "De Butcher" was the one guy they hated going up against most.
