NBA 2k14 Orlando Magic MyGM

Selecting the Magic
When firing up MyGM I had already made the decision that I wanted to take a rebuilding franchise and change them to a championship team (and I didn't want it to be overnight - meaning I couldn't just trade for superstar players).

My first thought was the Boston Celtics. The Celtics have a lot of interesting pieces, but (outside of Rondo) they are just pieces. I could foresee already that I would get too many tempting trade offers to ignore. So I nixed Boston.

Second up was the Milwaukee Bucks. This team is absolutely barren. Sure, O.J. Mayo is a niece player but outside of him the team is filled with expiring contracts and bench warmers. It seemed much too difficult in all honesty.

Lastly I came across the Orlando Magic. The team has a few niece young players in Oladipo, Vucevic, Harris and Harkless and has movable contracts in Afflalo, Turkoglu and Davis. Not to mention their jerseys aren't too bad which won't get boring after 82 games.

Moves prior to season
When the owner sat down with me he gave me a few demands. 1, win 18 games at home this season; 2, trade either Ronnie Price or Hedo Turkoglu; 3, play Victor Oladipo 24 min a game; 4, get better on paper.

I don't think demand #1 is going to happen, the team is a collection of awful. Going 18-23 at home seems like an unlikely feat. Also demand #4 is probably not going to happen. I don't want to fleece the computer on every trade so I realistically can't get much better on paper.

Demands #2 and #3 on the other hand are right in line with what I wanted to do. Moving Hedo was something I wanted to do as soon as I picked Orlando, and giving Oladipo a high amount of minutes was also a given.

I immediately went to the trade screens and started looking for deals involving both Price and Hedo. The best - and most realistic - trade I was offered was from Boston. The Celtics took both Price and Hedo in exchange for Kris Humphries. I actually really like Humphries, he is an absolute rebound machine. This also allows me to move Glenn Davis sometime in the future because I can live with Humphries starting and getting 30+ min a night for now.

Trade two was about moving Aaron Afflalo for a 1st round pick and a veteran to use off the bench. Luckily the Bucks were able to fill this role for me. They coughed up a 2014 1st round pick and threw in Caron Butler. Once the trade was complete I moved Butler to the bench and changed his role to role player which severely lowered his morale, but seeing as how I don't plan to resign him it means little to me.

The final trade was about moving one of my many PF's to free up some minutes for Humphries and Nicholson. What I wanted was a big 7-footer to back-up Vucevic and a 2nd round pick or a solid reserve. This time the Miami Heat gave me an offer I couldn't refuse, they offered Greg Oden and Roger Mason for Jason Maxiell and a 2015 2nd rounder. It was great to add height and rebounding for a minimal charge.

The Rotation
After all these moves I was forced to severely alter the rotation. Here's what I came up with based on what I had and what I wanted to do:

PG Jameer Nelson 28 min
SG Victor Oladipo 30 min
SF Tobias Harris 28 min
PF Glenn Davis 26 min
C Nikola Vucevic 32 min
6 Maurice Harkless 28 min
7 Caron Butler 20 min
8 Kris Humphries 18 min
9 E'Twaun Moore 12 min
10 Greg Oden 10 min
11 Andrew Nicholson 8 min
12 Doron Lamb 0 min
Res. Kyle O'Quinn
Res. Roger Mason

Game one of the season is in Indianapolis against the Pacers. I am playing on HoF sliders, so I anticipate a struggle this season. Check back for game-by-game updates.
