Utah drew first blood in the second half with a 24 yard touchdown run, but kick returner Q. Smith answered back swiftly for UMass with a 103 yard kickoff return touchdown to give UMass the lead. In the fourth, Utah's QB C. Hansen struck gold again with a 36 yard TD pass to F. Fitzgerald. UMass responded with a game tying Levengood FG with 3:01 left on the clock. Utah came back with a strong drive, but failed on 3rd and 1 and was forced to punt, giving UMass the ball with 1:12 on the clock.
The final UMass drive was entirely about field position. dive, slant, slant, and screen to put UMass in field goal position. UMass used their final timeout to stop the clock with 0:02 seconds and Levengood came out and kicked the game winner from 34 yards out. CB Q. Smith captured Player of the Game with 205 KR yards and a TD.
