ADG24's NBA 2K11 Review

Presentation

I must say 2K really stepped it up this year in the Presentation department. Earlier we heard how they hired a TNT employee to help them make the game feel more like you are watching a game on TV and man they got it down to perfection. It truly feels like you are watching a game on TNT and the commentary is much more improved this year.

Graphics

Graphics are a bit better than year's past in my opinion the major difference is how bright and clear the game is. You can clearly see how each player now looks like it's real life counterpart and each arena looks simply amazing.

Sounds

2K did a great job this year providing us with a great soundtrack, so when you pop in the game for the first time and as you continue to play you will not get tired of the songs you will hear in the background... even though as you play this game a lot it will get repetitive, but a tremendous job by 2K this year.

As I mentioned previously commentary is much more improved and the arena sounds are a whole lot better than in years past. 2K gives us the option to play our own Arena Sounds, but out of the box the arena sounds are pretty close to what you hear in each arena.

Gameplay

I cannot emphasize enough how great this game is and when it comes down to it the major improvement this year was done to gameplay. In my case I have been playing 2K for years and years (since 2K3), but this is by far the best experience I've had playing a basketball video game. I tell you, EA made a huge mistake letting Wang go as he has brought over the things that Live (Elite) had going on their advantage.

When you first play this game it's going to feel like 2K and Live (Elite) had a baby and this is the result. 2K really did a great job this year getting it all down the defense, the iso-motion controls, the shot sticks... everything is near perfection. I have spent hours in practice mode trying to master all the iso-moves and all the features that the shot stick now features and man I don't get tired of it.

The only negative things I can say about the gameplay is the rebound animation and the wide open looks that do not go down IF you do not adjust the sliders. I have not played one bit with the sliders as FOR NOW I don't think is necessary I've been playing on Simulation, Pro and it's playing great, but it is hard to hit wide open looks, so a little slider adjustment should take care of this.

The rebounding animation is probably the one thing that will bother you when you play the game as big men jump just as high as Vince Carter or JR Smith, so their jump looks a bit unrealistic when going for blocks or rebounds... not a game killer as you get used to it.

Final Thoughts

This game will keep you busy for a while as you try to rebuild a franchise in the association mode, try to relieve some of Jordan greatest moments in The Jordan Chalenge, try to become the next NBA MVP in My Player mode or jump online to compete against the best in pick up games or in league play... 2K has really, really take care of all of your basketball needs with NBA 2K11 now it's time to sit back, relax and play some basketball!

FINAL SCORE: 9.6/10

The game is definitely being rated too high. IGN rated it too high and you did too. I'm waiting for the Gamespot review to see how they rate. They are usually good with their ratings. I have the game and it probably is one of the best NBA basketball games of all time, but 9.6 out of 10 is almost perfect and the game is not quite perfect. On of my main gripes is with My Player. They start your rating out(a 36) way too low and it just gets frustrating. It takes too long in My Player for the real fun to happen. The game play is great, but sometimes the cpu is just too smart. That's not a killer obviously because a challenge is always great. Also, you still do get stuck in some animations. Like if you are trying to guard someone and you're moving around the court, you go even close to another player and that sort of tag you to that player as if your trying to go around a screen, when you really didn't even have to touch the player. I would give the game probably an 8.8, which is still great. A 9.6 is just a tad bit too high.

People will love the game, but like every year, people judge the game quickly. Then a few months go by and you hear how people really feel about the game. It's like this every year. The game is great, but it still a ways to go. I'm just not so quick to rate the game 9.0 and above.

you've been playing on simulation "pro". really bro????????

nothing wrong with a 9 people...do the math. 90%! Nows thats pretty freaking awesome

I think all of the high 9.5 plus scores are just trying to reflect the tremendous improvement in the game from last year....going from a 8.5 to an 8.8 probaly wouldn't get peoples attention. It's sort of like they're grading on a curve.

# 10 Blackwiz @ Oct 5
Yea, but regardless of the improvement, that 9.5 score will be online forever. When you judge a game like that, every year, you have to bump it up because of another improvement. But overall, the game shouldn't be rated a 9.5. I have the game and Im saying that off of personal experience. The game is VERY fun, but I see great improvements down the line and the game is a GREAT 8.8 or 8.9 at the highest. As far as Im concerned, that's still a great score.

8.5 to an 8.8 would get peoples attention because its an improvement. After you guys buy the game, play the game, and play the game after a few months, you'll love the game, but you'll start to list in your head, what REALLY needs to be fixed. Then you'll see why it could be an 8.8, but how a 9.5 is too high. Heck, a 9 could be considered too high too.

As I am in Brazil, I had to import 2k11. I found on eBay a seller with game already available. Hopefully in 2 weeks I`ll be playing it. I want it so bad \o/

there is nothing wrong with rating a game in the 9 range, especially if you have years of experience playing previous versions. it would be unfair if a newbie did the reviews and rated it.

Ive always enjoyed 2k's basketball games and this year will be no different. they have yet to disappoint me. some years are better than others, and this year seems to be no different.

cant wait to pick up my copy.

It's not a noob issue. It's a "the game is not a 9.6/10" issue. Well, its all opinions, to each is own.

I do agree with myplayer rating being to low to start but I look at it as being drafted on potential.... my only gripe is that the passing is well, I wouldn't say bad, I just need to get use to it... other than that it's better than last ears effort in every way which is great considering sports games don't update everything (see EAsports) but a 9.5/6 is not what I would give it only because if it gets a 10 there isn't anywhere for it to improve and it can in adding a weekly recap or adding more old school rosters/team like Barkleys Suns or "the Dreams" Rockets or adding a virtual Spike Lee/Jack in LA.
