This win by Damon Hill was huge for both the driver’s and the team’s title as you can see when we get to the updated standings below

Schumacher still leads the driver’s championship but it has been reduced to two points between him and Damon Hill. Jean Alesi is hanging on to 3rd as of right now over Mika Hakkinen by 6 points.
Team’s Standings after Round 8 of 16
1 McLaren-Mercedes 50
2 Ferrari 46
3 Ligier-Peugeot 27
4 Piquet-BMW 23
5 Minardi-Honda 23
6 Williams-Cosworth 20
7 Benetton-Renault 12
8 Larrousse-Cosworth 3
9 Forti-Lamborghini 2
10 DAMS-Nissan 2
11 Sauber-Ferrari 0 best finish 7th
12 TWR-BMW 0 best finish 8th
13 Tyrrell-Yamaha 0 best finish 9th
14 Jordan-Hart 0 best finish 14th

18 Dome-Mugen 0 Best pre-q result 26th
19 Lola-Nissan 0 best pre-q result 27th
20 Pacific-Rolls Royce 0 best pre-q result 29th
The bigger surprise lies in the Team’s championship when McLaren-Mercedes are leading the championship table by 4 points over Ferrari, who is essentially a one-man show still. In the meantime, on the other side of the paddock, six teams are still struggling to make out of pre-q. Remember, if any team fails to make a race grid for an entire season, they will be automatically be kicked out of the championship with immediate effect. The most notable and famous name among these six teams is without a doubt Team Lotus.
And one final note to keep in mind before I start the second half of this season, the FIA has just reduced the maximum number of teams allowed on the entry list for the 1996 season from 20 to 17 due to what has happened to the changes implemented to Pre-Qualifying.
