So I'm reading my latest SI, and there is KU's Ben Macklemore on the cover. He is all sleeved up with ink. You can see poking out from his jersey that he has tons more on his chest and more than likely stomach. What gives with the kids today?
I know, I know...you want to document reminders of your influences, experiences, and beliefs. Dude is a redshirt freshman!! What? 19 or 20 at the most? And his prime tattoo real estate is already all used up! You aren't married, kids, NBA, grandkids...the only spot left to get ink of your kids is gonna be your ***, and that ain't cool dawg!
In my day, only ex cons, veterans/military, and sluts had tattoos. It was a sign of someone that grew up going to the school of hard knocks. Now everyone is getting pricked! Now if you want to stand out, be different, anti establishment....don't get ink'd up.
I'm not a fan of 'em, never have been. Especially the ultra lame 'barbed wire' or 'tribal' bicep tatt's. Yeah, way to stand out douche. Next time you want a reminder of a life experience just take a pic. Like Adam Carolla said..."I like girls that have tattoo's. It shows they're not afraid of making mistakes."
Drops mic.....thanks for reading.

The fact that it's popular to get them drive mindless drones not only to get one because it is popular and their friends do it causes ppl to do it. It's also like a competition for some and they feel they have to outdo everyone else. It's dumb and to me, the natural body is the art but one or 2 well placed and possibly discreet ones are cool with me. Almost got one on my bicep in high school (I graduated in 91. Heh)BEFORE it was so popular, especially for us blacks. My friend and I got all types of negative reactions when we told ppl we wanted to get them. Funny how things things have changed.
That said, it's gunna be funny when it becomes popular to get rid of them. U think getting them on is painful??? Ha. Not to mention the scarring it can leave and in many a case, YOU CAN STILL SEE THE TAT EVEN AFTER "REMOVAL"!! Unless you got big dough and can get the best laser surgery to remove it, good luck. U may even need some plastic surgery afterwards. Heh.
Maybe if and when the removal craze hits, it will be more affordable and less painful to get it fully removed.

I'm an artist. I like tattoos as art which is why the ones on my arms were designed by me, mean something, and I'm proud to have them. I agree that random tats chosen from an artist's book, barbed wire, non-descript tribal lines, etc. are corny and whack. But, to each their own. This came off as, Hey, you kids, get off my lawn. haha

Oh and I'm 41, if that matters. I first got interested in getting tats when I was in high school back in the late 80's, early 90's. Mostly because many of the bands I listened to were all tatted up.

it's certainly possible to go overboard. i would never get one on my neck, easy way to get harshly judged. but i have a large tattoo on my left forearm. plan on getting quite a few more, just not financially possible right now. the problem is all the ppl who get a trendy little tat on a whim, cuz they will absolutely regret it. you gotta be all in if you wanna get into inking yourself
