I love if's especially in sports. It is a fun game to play always thinking of the various possibilities of something. The tiniest change could change everything completely. I was playing an old baseball game (Triple Play Baseball ya know the one with Giambi on the cover) and seeing the old Yankee team of last decade made me think what would ever happen if i was in control of the Yanks what would I do different and fantasy became reality as I am writing this entry right now. The off season of 1999 is where it begins
The first move i would make for the Yankees would involve three of the Yankees top prospects First baseman Nick Johnson, LHP Ed Yarnell And Willy mo Pena in exchange for Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey Junior. In My fantasy world Junior would want to go to a top Contender as opposed to the project in the working known as the Cincinnati Reds. The Trade is fair considering at the time Nick Johnson and Yarnell were considered top of the line prospects and Willy Mo Pena was a very respectable one as well. This trade would help an eventual need as after the 2001 season Paul O'Neil Retires The Yankee Outfield (at this point) would be Bernie Williams in Left, Junior in Center and O'Neil in Right field With Justice holding the DH Role.
The 2000 Season ( I believe) would progress better than it did Junior would most likely top 50 Homers in his first year in pinstripes and the Yanks would win more games but the end result would remain the same as the Yankees would take the world series. despite a solid performance down the stretch from David Justice I elect to purse Manny Ramirez to ultimately take the place of fan favorite Paul O'Neil as i do not find that Justice's solid play will continue. The end result is the Yankees narrowly beating out the Red Sox for Manny and eventually signing him to an 8 year 180 million dollar deal.
The Addition of Manny Super Charges the Yankee lineup as the Yankees once again capture the Division title. The Yankees face Arizona Again in the world series but defeat them in 7 (this could happen Manny + Griffey + the already stacked yankee team wins them another title)
The offseason of 2001 pans out completely different. Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius are resigned but Chuck Knoblauch is released but "The Warrior" Paul O'Neil still retires . The Yankees avoid the headache contract of Jason Giambi and elect Alfonso Soriano to play at 2nd base to fill the void that Knoblauch left.
The Years progress differently in terms of winning and differently in terms of who they sign and trade for. The Yankees fail to capture the title in 2002 but win in 2003 defeating the Marlins. Despite the Championship Win David Well's still leaves but Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite elect to stay. The Yankees ultimately Win the battle for prized Free Agent Curt Shilling because they have no need to sign Gary Sheffield and Sign Miguel Tejeda to play third base because of the fact that Alex Rodriguez is not needed to bolster the Line up. Javier Vazquez is never acquired due to the fact that the Yankees traded away Nick Johnson and instead the Yankees elect to sign aging but still effective Greg Maddux.
The 2004 season rolls around and things once again look bright. With the new Additions of Miguel Tejeda Curt Shilling and Greg Maddux the Yankees look posied for another title run. The Aging Bernie Williams is now moved from Left Field to DH and Manny Ramirez is moved from Right to Left field to make way for young prospect Juan Rivera. The Yankees have no trouble holding off any American League Team and go on route to a 110+ Win Season which ends with them Capturing the title over the Cardinals.
And this is where our story ends for now *cue Maniacal laughter here* The Empire of the Bronx ends up being more dominate than history had it. At leas this is the way it would play out in my fantasy world (or in a video game ) i hope you enjoyed reading this because i worked hard on planning this all out lol. Thanks
