Help with ratings and attributes for Greg Landry

Is anyone familiar with Greg Landry? He was a Quarterback for the Detroit Lions. He made the Pro Bowl and First Team All Pro for the 1971 season and was the Comeback Player Of The Year for the 1976 season. I'm going to put him on my all-time Lions team, but I need help with his ratings and attributes. Can someone who is familiar with Greg help me.

Well for starters just off the top of my head if your looking for realism and not just out to make him a 99 overall here's some suggestions.

His career comp % was 55.5%. In Madden I'd rate him around 75-76 for accuracy.

He did have a strong arm though. His longest career pass was 84 yards but he topped 80 yards on a few occasions. I'd rate him 90 for throw power....

His career TD/INT ratio (98/103) wasn't very impressive but that was pretty much the norm for guys back in those days. He took a lot of sacks considering they didn't throw the ball much back then. I believe he had 4 years in which he got sacked 30 or more times with one year getting as high as 55 sacks.

So for his Trait I'd probably set throw ball away to NO, Forces Passes to Ideal and Sense Pressure to Trigger Happy.

He had some big years running the ball as a QB back then 6 times topping 200+ and twice going over 500 yards.

My key ratings would be the following

Throw Power-90

Throw Accuracy
Short-76
Mid-70
Long-82

Awareness-74

Players weren't as fast back then either. But the avg 40 time for today's QB's is 4.81. I'd say since he did run well back then his speed would be comparable to league avg today on the low end though.

If your looking for a specific season like his Pro Bowl year (71) then his awareness would go up to around 80-81 for that season. He finished with comp rate of 52% and his TD/INT ratio was 16/13 that season.

Now granted if you search on EA Share for All Time rosters most of the QB's are going to be rated in 90's or higher. So he's not going to look good compared to those QB's but I'm not a fan of those rosters because it looks like a team full of MUT players.

From what i’ve read, landry was a top scrambler in his day. Bobby Douglass for the bears and tarkenton as well. douglass was really big and had a cannon arm as well. he was built more like tebow. dan majkowski would be a more modern comparison for Greg Landry. Landry’s career just lasted quite a bit longer.

Obviously these ratings as mentioned before won't stack up to MUT ratings for QB's. But those ratings are done to give a higher boost collectively to each QB.

These rating suggestions look very good to me as true ratings within maddens version of translating ratings to football.

One major question that needs to be asked when creating any roster especially one that crosses era is how do you want to compare players from different eras?

Unfortunately if you use true ratings the QB hall of famers from the golden age or prior to AFL NFL merger is going to have maddens OVR much lower (like a low end starter or even a backup on some modern teams). This is true for speed as well for most players.

If you watch any video you will see that Night Train Lane was much faster than those he played against in his “era” similar to Deion Sanders vs his era however in true ratings Deion would still be at 98 or 99 all time but Lane would fall back to a 89 or 90. So do you want TRUE ratings to show that back up WRs of today could run past Lane or do you want them based on ERA so the most accurate passers of their era are in line with the most accurate of today and fast back then = fast for this roster and slightly below average in 2022?
