For those more in the know, is there a point when this gets concerning?
|
I think we're well past the point of this being concerning. We have a majority of the GOP declaring that SCOTUS should overturn the election because they don't like the outcome and feel the GOP-appointed justices owe them. AT this point it's hard to know whether this is an ending or the beginning of a more anti-democratic future.
|
yeah. Long term I agree it is already concerning. I guess I should have been more specific. In the short term are there any actual worries they could overturn the election, or delay the electoral college?
I realize the concept of an armed civil war is so alien, but is we were watching this happen in another country we would think there is no way their democracy would survive. |
There's a lot of dry tinder on the ground and I worry a lot about what happens if there's a spark. A shooter taking out an elector next week could push things into a violent phase pretty quickly.

Surely he won't have to be physically removed, if for no other reason than how weak that would make him look. |
A lot of GOP Politicians said back in November that they would accept Biden as President-Elect "When the Electoral College voted" or "After the Supreme Court ruled on any cases."
I am sure that seemed so far away when they said it. Surely, the problem will have resolved itself by then. Sort of like getting a two-week extension on a term paper. "I'll have lots of time to write the paper now!" Well, the paper's due on Monday, guys. How's that going for you? |
Looks like #3 to me. But the "give up" should be "give up but with continued bitching".

Twitter is turning off commenting and liking on his posts that mention the election. He’s got to be out of his mind.

So, the two big dates left are the EC voting on Monday and Congress accepting the results on Jan. 6th.
There are a lot of MAGA House members who would be fine having a vote on accepting the results. They would lose, of course. But they would be happy to fight. But, apparently, you need an objection from a House member AND a Senator to even get a vote. And I don't think that McConnell wants his members having to go on record with a vote. They don't get the benefit of gerrymandered districts when they run for reelection. So my guess is that McConnell is happy for all of the norm-busting that Trump has done, but he's ready for it to end. And I've always felt that McConnell is pulling Trump's strings more than people realize (A very smart puppetmaster with a very stupid puppet). So I think that McConnell will backchannel to the WH that it is time for Trump to acknowledge that Biden will be President, while continuing to deny his legitimacy. And he'll make Trump think that it is all his idea. |

This is a stupid deranged unhinged man who knows the moment he's out of office he's in danger to criminal and financial investigations.
He's going to fight using all resources to control the government (he had 125 stupid assholes join him in his Supreme Court gambit, they should all be removed from office). His followers are going to be more deranged and dangerous as he escalates further. The run-offs have to go blue or this will get much worse. |

An understated, I think, part of all this is how Biden is just not reacting to anything.
Trump needs chaos. He needs the fight to keep going. He gains power when you fight back. It's the classic "when you mud wrestle a pig, you both get dirty, but the pig enjoys it." Biden isn't getting down into the dirt with him. |
I imagine some, Nobody. Being outside helps cut it down, and the masked groups help as well. Probably less than a large group in a small area with no mask, but more than none.

Ben needs to add a new poll option:

That's an opinion of a non-trumpian lawyer, btw. Not someone fron his team, or even sources from his people. Not saying it is wrong, just that it is a guess.

If Trump tried that I believe he would be breaking the law.
I get Biden not going after Trump for the things Trump did in office, although I think he should, but if Trump attempts to govern once Biden takes over that absolutely would have to be stomped out. |
Quote:
Oh yeah, that isn't the campaign. That's just a guess. I think that Trump won't do that. He will be President-In-Exile-and-God-Emperor-Trump. But I don't think he'll have a fake oath of office administered. He has to walk up to the line where he looks strong but not stupid to his supporters. Shit posting on Twitter about how much better he'd be as president and pointing out that he should be president is one thing. Actually having, like, fake presidential seals made and stuff is another. |
|
"giant jurists" floored me.

Trump says no judge has ruled on evidence. He is wrong. Judge Ludwig, who Trump appointed just months ago, said the President had standing in his court. He then ruled against him pretty harshly based on merit.

trump has given some insights into his plan going forward. He will call Biden the illegitimate President and everything that he says will go from there. I'm not sure he'll go so far as to take an oath of office separate, but he's dangerously close to criminal behavior. I think he's too stupid to keep from crossing the line after Jan 20th as well. He is already fueling the flames for people who have little reservation about killing in the name of trump. It's coming. I hope when that happens, and he's not the president, that he's arrested and charged.

Parler and Qanon folks losing their shit over the google outage
|
I just saw a CBS poll that 48% of Republicans say Trump should not concede and should do whatever it takes to remain in office. The only thing that will keep us from an outbreak of numerous mass casualty incidents is the hope that, like those of us sitting at our computer while Trump does things we never thought he'd do instead of taking to the streets, the vast majority of these MAGA pu$$ies do nothing but cry to each other on social media after Biden takes over, and eventually things go back to some sort of normal.
There will still be threats and a few violent incidents, but I'm hoping the complacency of Americans and not wanting to upend pretty decent personal situations will keep most of the possible action from actually happening. |
This kind of crap cannot just continue to be allowed.
