That' such a damning accusation that I want to get some corroboration, but it definitely needs to be investigated and exposed if true.

That's my feeling as well. May be true, but proof is needed.

Even as each part of damning new evidence drops it's STILL impossible to tell if there was some real, nefarious & sophisticated coordination with violent internet going on in the background, or if this was just some extended circus clown show that everybody involved with naively thought would get to some critical level but never turn violent.


The lack of police seems to be the crucial element....like if there had been a 'proper' amount of police force there I think this would've looked a lot more like a Portland protest, and the folks never would've made it inside the building, which is the optics that I think all the involved politicians were imagining. It seems like the police response was weakened from several different points and it will be ironic if it was done without any kind of coordination and effectively 'defunding the police' ends up being the reason everything went to shit.

One would think that they should know who every person that goes through that building is.

I agree as well. Even in the video I shared were it was obvious the person knew the building, it could have been he or someone he knew worked in the building in the past. It wouldn't necessarily have to go to the level of an actual congressional member. Former aides, members or former members of the Capitol police, maintenance, etc.

What is without a doubt is that there were people in that crowd that had bigger plans, and this could have been much worse.

There's something amusing about that picture - these are the goofs that invaded the capital. Many were there for the "Team Trump Super Bowl" - which is mostly more stupid and weirdly celebratory than dangerous. But it also belies the much darker intentions of a number of people in that crowd, downplays the deaths, and the seriousness that we were really close to a successful coup. It's comforting that our institutions held, but it was disappointing that we have that many dumb and delusional people and it needs to not be forgotten how close we were to overthrowing an election and that express train to fascism.

And it really was a hair's breadth. If, for instance, if Goodman isn't there and doesn't put himself in serious personal harm's way, duping a bunch of racist protesters to follow him instead of go towards the unsecured Senate chambers, our Democracy would have fallen. That's exactly how close it was.
