I got totally sucked into SpaceChem this week. Pretty cool puzzle game where you build little factories that produce chemicals through ingenuity and fake chemistry. Absolutely addicting.

Glad you're enjoying it - as always if you have any suggestions for improving it or questions about it feel free to drop me a PM. |

Thank you. |
I am looking for some recommendations. I just got a iPad 4th gen and not sure what to start playing. Like most of us I like sports sims and strategy games like civ. So far I have played pocket planes for a while but feel like there is no goal, you just keep playing and adding more planes or airports. I have also played big win hockey and feel like I have hit the wall after a week or so. The one game I like is lep world 2 which is like Mario.
I feel like the board games like ticket to ride or carcosnne fit what I like but since I have not played the board games it might be hard and not sure my first purchase should be on the expensive side. I also think maybe FMH or civ rev is the right first step into tablet apps since I like the computer versions. Any good ideas on where to start? |
I never got into Civ but I haven't really heard much "good" about the iOS port. FMH is pretty good, and if you're familiar with the PC game, you'll probably enjoy the port.
I never played either TTR or Carcassonne before buying the iOS versions. Carc is my favorite iOS game. I wish SOME PEOPLE (ahem, FM) would play their turns more often. I have all the expansions, too. I also love Jetpack Joyride. And have played more Dungelot in the last few nights than most other games this year... /tk |
Dungelot is AWESOME
|
Tell me more about dungeon. I download the lite version and it seems like your success is mostly luck and I get to level 10 or so and die. It then takes me back to the beginning but I have my cash. Does the full version let you continue where you left off. What type of decisions do you make that help determine your success.
Another question, I found a game that was free and normally 4.99 but when I open it seems like a demo and a I still need to buy it. Am I missing something? |
Dungelot is somewhat random, similar to most rogue-type games. You can't control what kind of gear/spells you will find, etc, but that's part of the beauty of the genre.
Each time you die, you start over again but with your cash. The cash is used to upgrade the skills of the characters you have unlocked or (and this is more important later) to use in the shops in the dungeons you find to improve your offence or recover life. In terms of other games to consider, try Rebuild, which is a turn-based zombie strategy game. Very very good and you may have played it before on Kongregate or some other similar site. |
I'm also really enjoying Dungelot. Most find Rogue game I've played in a while.
|
Thanks for the information. I think what I wasn't doing was adding powers before restarting. I was finding if I didn't find a shop early I wasn't making it very far.
|
and for what it's worth, Dungelot is currently free, don't know for how long. Highly recommend it. Paid for it and have got back more than my money's worth

I'd complain that I bought it less than a week ago, but you can't really complain about $1.99. |

I bought it last night.. but I'd gladly pay the 1.99 again to support this team. Very fun game. |
Anyone else excited for Pixel People? I am and jumping in on Thursday. Pocket Planes was so addictive.
|

This is why I love this thread. I hadn't heard about Pixel People, but I'll be jumping in on Thursday as well. |

was $0.99 on my droid but i grabbed it free on my ipad. my son thanks you guys for pointing it out :) |
Yeah I have no regrets paying for it. I've already spent way more time playing it than I should admit.
/tk |
I've been playing quite a lot of Dungelot too. It bothers me that I can't unlock the warrior. Do we know if there is a final level?

it's my turn to shake my fist at someone, yeah, I'm talking about you two!!! Pixel People will be a huge time sink for me, I sense it... Very interesting concept! And I love games that sync with iCloud for play between devices... FM |
Downloaded it last night and I've unlocked 50 people so far. I'm not sure I can say it's a fun game. I think I've said this before in other threads but to me Civ is not necessarily a fun game. It's fun, but I'd categorize it as more as an engrossing game. Pocket Planes was that as well. Pixel People is engrossing, but it's also not the most fun of games. That being said, it's well worth a free download. Although there are IAP, you don't need to do that.
|
Downloaded Pixel People but got rid of it after a couple of hours. Didn't quite feel the fun factor of it tbh.
|
Pixel People feels more like work than anything.
|
Ive played it long enough that Ive got about 60 classes of people but its already at the point where land is too expensive for the game to be any fun. I have to wait about a full day to pay for my next land buy, it seems like it will double every time after that, and ill use up almost half of that when i unlock one new class i know i can make.
|
For games like TTR can you do multiplayer with random people?
|
Ticket to ride pocket is free this week so I picked up. Seems right up my alley. What is different about the iPad version that might make me want to get it instead if I like the iPhone version.

I just use the iphone version on my ipad personally. |
Great Big War Game just went free.
|
Quote:
Highly recommend. It took me a week, playing an hour or so here and there, just to get through Mission 9 (Alamo)...and there are 41 more levels. |

Plus 1. It's my most played iPad game right now. Highly enjoyable. |
New Kairosoft game, Beastie Bay is out!
|
Quote:
yeah, was gonna post about it. Interesting is the fact that they released it as a free to play game with ads... been playing with it a bit, interesting pokemon-like game so far... FM |
Not sure I like the changes to Dungelot. It took me forever to get to level 35 and unlock the assassin. My first run with the new patch has me at level 60 with over 130 in health. Certainly is a much easier game now.
|
I still haven't finished a game of Pocket Clothier, but nonetheless... *goes to download Beastie Bay*

This! |

It is way too easy now. I made it to level 165 and only boredom caused me to be defeated. |
According to the developer there has already been a patch submitted to itunes to increase the difficulty of Dungelot to get it more in line with where it was before the last patch.
|

This is definitely needed. I thought getting to level 50 to unlock the new character would take forever, but the first game got me to about 110. I thought I suddenly got really good. :D |
I've been working hard to unlock the assassin and haven't played at all with the new patch... sounds like I'll wait unti the next patch is out to play it again.
|
Looking forward to Real Racing 3 tonight....
|
I got Asphalt 7 as my first racing game. Seems to be what I want in such a game - simple mechanics in a real setting. But boy was that a big download - 1.5gb.
|
Also, there's an update to gin rummy pro (the only card game I like) that went from impossible to lose on hard to being tough to win (so far).
|
Any good recommendation for a racing game that is easy to control for a 3 yr old?

I take it back. Looks like it's not launching in the US until 2/28, and the "freemium" approach EA has taken has really soured me on it. |
Quote:
yeah, I was gonna ask you about it. Looks like it should be available on the Canadian app store at some point tonight but I'm also reading all sorts of things about the freemium approach. Maybe it'll work out ok for me as I rarely play for long period of time and I'll be able to set my car to be repaired or upgraded and come back later, but we'll see... FM |

Me too. |
Dola,
If for some bizarr-o reason you haven't obtained Infinity Blade, now's your chance: it's free this week because of Apple's "App of the Week" promotion. Touch Arcade has the details. /tk |
what's infinity blade?
never heard of it, don't have it, must get it now. |
Definitely get Infinity Blade if it's free, it's graphically great and well worth the download time/effort.
|
Infinity Blade is a lot of fun on IPad. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much on my phone. It was hard for me to see everything and it ate up my battery in a hurry.
|
will grab it now
