The Jays sweep the Mets in impressive fashion behind a dominant pitching performance by Henderson Alvarez and four relievers. Although Alvarez got a no-decision he pitched well enough to win but the offense couldn't score any runs against Johan Santana until the 7th inning when Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo shot for the only run of the game.

Toronto pitchers struck out 14 New York hitters in a game that lasted only 2 hours and 9 minutes. Santana was equally dominant for the Mets except for the lone mistake to Encarnacion.

The Jays picked up a game in the standings thanks to a Boston loss and now sit 9 games behind the AL East leading Red Sox.
