UTSA's defense had so much built up anger after performing horribly against New Mexico and Oklahoma State, they just had to take it out on somebody. Unfortunately for Marshall, it just happened to be them. The offense woke up for the Roadrunners as David Glasco found the endzone on a three yard run midway through the first quarter and the defense held strong ending the first quarter on top 7-0. The game was tied going into halftime, thanks to a 10 yard scramble by Marshall quarterback, Rakeem Cato. The UTSA defense shut Marshall down in the second half though, as key interceptions by Erik Brown and Steven Kurfehs allowed UTSA to capitalize on those mistakes by backup quarterback A.J. Graham. Cato left the game shortly after halftime with an injured arm, which was later found out to be fractured. Other injury news during the game was Marshall running back Travon Van. He left the game with a concussion and will be questionable for next week's game, leaving them down to third string running back, Tyrone Jackson. Early in the third quarter, Sean Ianno tacked on a 17 yard field goal to give UTSA the lead for good, and then quarterback Eric Soza took over from there. Soza threw three, second half touchdown passes. The first was a 16 yarder to Kam Jones, the second a 12 yard strike to Kenny Harrison and the third was a 30 yard bomb to Jones. On an additional note, linebacker Steven Kurfehs set a new school record for interceptions in one game.
