World Series Game 2 vs. MIA
As we entered Game 2, the focus was on the effect that pitching would have. Once again, we expected few runs with both Anibal Sanchez and Josh Beckett starting. Coming in, Josh Beckett had not lost as a Tiger. However, he has had the benefit of some no-decisions.
Tigers fans were worried, as yet another Marlin ace was carving up batters. The first run was scored in the 6th when Hunter Pence slugged a solo shot to left.
After an innocent leadoff single in the 7th by Giancarlo Stanton, the middle of the Marlins lineup went on a tear, rattling off multiple hits and taking a 3-1 lead.
After posting consecutive hits (and an RBI) to start the bottom of the 7th, a double play wiped out the rest.
The 8th was treacherous, as Jose Reyes doubled down the line, but he was stranded.
Off Juan Carlos Oviedo, the Tigers rallied with 2 outs in the 8th to take a 4-3 lead. Miguel Cabrera struck out to end the inning, leaving a baserunner that almost haunted the Tigers.
John Axford came on in the 9th. With two outs, John Buck hit a ground-rule double. With 2 strikes, Adalberto Brach grounded another double down the line. John Axford blew the save.
Trouble brewed, with two outs (once again), for the Tigers in the bottom of the 9th. Oviedo was pulled for Steve Cishek, who surrendered a triple to Ian Kinsler. Pinch-hitter Mark Trumbo was intentionally walked. On a 1-2 pitch, the next batter, Geovany Soto, walked off with a single to short right.
The Tigers escaped, and they will head to New Marlins Park for the first time in franchise history. They bring a 2-0 lead with them...
