Re: MLB 10: The Speculation and Naysayers...

My two cents...

I think in reading these forums, seeing what people say regarding this game and why the demo isn't out (Pasta Padre included); its just clear, like in every part of daily life, that people are going to believe in what they want, no matter the circumstance. You can't please everybody.

I have been a member of this forum for almost 10 years. I have read almost every post regarding baseball games and rarely post, not because I do not have anything to say, I have just found that with a little patience, it will get said for me. There are some great members of this site, that are knowledgeable and because of that I know that we are in good hands. Also, I do not like to get caught up in these wars that have happened on here (Blzer comes to mind, ), but I do not like what has transpired here over this demo. The MLB 10 Speculation thread, lead me to this post.

For me, I pride my self in making decisions based on facts, and I always try to remove my emotions from my decision making process. Like I said before, I rarely post, because most of my questions can be answered through patience and reading. I trust the senior members of this site, so I can afford to sit back and wait.

From what I have gathered, MLB 10 will be the best baseball game we have ever seen.

If anyone has truly followed the development of this series over the years, the interaction between Knight and Pared and Jim with Russell, then you can easily see the passion these guys have in making the most authentic representation of the sport. When I see these same guys saying that they will never play MLB 09 again, what more do you need to hear?

But, in trying to gather the facts for myself, I found that some of my "wants" have been addressed, namely fielding. I wanted a more, shall I say, MVP feel for fielding. Momentum, ratings really mattered. Very dynamic and fluid. Fielding received a complete overhaul. Great.

I wanted a new fielding view, not because the old one didn't work, it just felt a little old. RTP was created. Awesome.

I wanted to see more lifelike batter reactions, walk outs and in between swing animations to give the game a little more "life". Done. Awesome.

I wanted more control over the stuff I could edit on the players, gear etc. They did it. Awesome.

I wanted to have a more realistic game in terms of hit variety and scoring chances. New ball physics, upgraded hitting model. Done. Awesome.

I wanted a tougher, less forgiving pitching model. Pitch meter shakes when pitcher is nervous or loses confidence. Done. Amazing.

I wanted to see some new pitching animations. In my opinion, this has been the weakest part of the series. Albeit, last year some new animations looked amazing, but for the most part, they were really lacking. What did they do? They overhauled the majority of the pitching animations. Now, while this sounds great, I will have to play and analyze this before I can be excited about it, but, I at least I can point to an actual report that this has been done and know that, based on SCEA track record, I can expect a better experience.

I wanted new player models for the longest time. Now, I know and understand why this hasn't happened and I have seen the tweaks that they have made with the current model and all I can say is I don't care anymore. The improved and current models look fine, with exceptions ,but there is so much the game does right, it doesnt matter to me anymore.

I wanted a more lively atmosphere in the game. Thundersticks, fans reaching onto the field, customizable audio for almost every situation. Done. Amazing.

I wanted better swing follow throughs. The JJ Hardy home run reversal swing was awesome. The Joe Mauer RTP home run was awesome. The Mauer single looked great. Done. Check. Amazing.

For me, to take an already amazing product that I play daily still in MLB 09, add or fix almost everything that stood out to me, add more that maybe wasnt a big deal to me, but definately creates a more feature rich experience (i.e, Catcher game calling in RTTS, realitime lighting, day to night transitions, Home-run Derby and All-Star weekend, Classic stadiums, etc.) and what we will find is the 2010 version of the Show will be the greatest baseball game ever produced.

Remember this; these guys do this right. As Russell stated; they do not add features for the sake of adding features or to fill the "back of the box". They truly want to make the best game. They have proven that with their previous performances.

So, in closing, please show them some love, don't get mad because the demo didn't come out the day you wanted it to. Don't get mad and say they haven't released enough info so you think they game wont be more then a roster update. Calm down, gather all the facts, find out what is important to you and then, enlighten us with your take. Other than that, please do not bother. Thanks.

Re: MLB 10: The Speculation and Naysayers...

I like your post, thanks for sharing. I appreciate all of the divulged info on this site and forums, and am very thankful for all the time and effort put into releasing info to us on a daily basis. Everyone has contributed which is awesome, and I couldn't find a better place for all this than right here. I was thinking of starting a MOD appreciation thread earlier for all the garbage they have to lock on a daily basis.

To make my own point.... I am a 25 yr old living with my wife. My parents are both gone from this world, and I have worked my butt off for everything I own. No one bought a PS3 for me, I damn sure earned it for myself. These things allow me to patiently await a games release, I usually have to wait long after a game's release before I can make a purchase. Last year and again this year I am suckered into the Show, by choice of course . I always have to make sacrifices for my family each and everyday and MLB is the one thing I can play without worry over bills or conflict with the misses. My point is that people need to sit back and appreciate life more, because after all the complaining and nonsense, its a GAME after all! Lets enjoy life for a while, take your gf's out for a day doing what she want's instead of sitting at your cpu or w/e refreshing these forum pages 10 times a minute.

Re: MLB 10: The Speculation and Naysayers...

This was an excellent post. I was mad at The Show today because I was experiencing massive CPU comeback in my Sox/Rays games, anytime I took the lead they'd score the very next inning, I would mind it less if it wasn't always right after! Then I read your post and it had a calming effect.

I cannot wait for MLB10 The Show, and I have been anxiously awaiting the demo, but more than anything I have tremendous respect for SCEA. The way they interact with their fans is unbelievable.

I think about the many game companies that do not listen to the fans at all... I'm thinking of one major sports game in particular, in which the company has not released a single patch over the past four years (it's not 2k)... and I feel lucky that SCEA cares about quality. I bet many PS3's have been bought just for The Show, including mine.

I'm confident that most of the issues I had with 09 will be addressed in 10. And I cannot wait to buy and play it!

A gameplay video would be nice 10 days before release... I want a gameplay video. No more trailers and blogs, I want to see this game in motion.

There are gameplay videos out there already. Although, I too would like to see more.

Re: MLB 10: The Speculation and Naysayers...

Patience is a virtue...

If they released it a month ago (the demo) and it was so mind-blowingly good, imagine having to wait a month before playing the real thing! (Thats how I felt last year)

Now, fast forward to next Thursday, or whenever the demo would come out. Imagine this amazing game, playing 3 inning after 3 inning game, and then, when you can't take it anymore, you can actually go buy it! I think they will capture more momentum off of the demo this way.

As far as game-play videos, blah. Games are meant to be played, not watched.

I think it is very interesting the fact that many people have been complaining about the lack of a demo as well as making negative comments about videos and/or screen shots of the game including complaints about batting stances that have been shown (I mean no disrespect to anyone btw). Granted, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some people are complaining about the demo (yes, I too would love to play the demo) and forget that not every game has a demo, and most importantly, the game isn't out so it is a little premature to complain about what may or may not be in the game or whether something was or was not fixed from a previous title. SCEA has done a great job and while I enjoy their games, I am sure there will always be room for improvement, and odds are that a few glitches (hopefully nothing game breaking) will be found...it's just the way it is with games. Wait until you get it, play the game and be heard if you love the game or if there are areas that require attention let the developers know. After all, if they didn't care they wouldn't bother asking for feedback nor hold a community event. Cheers.
