In past games was it actual historical school records, or just kept track of records from the point your game started?

If I remember correctly, the past games had historical records for schools, conferences, and nation, and the announcers would acknowledge when a player broke a record.

Interesting. I wonder if with NIL rules that would still be allowed … or if stats/numbers tied to a name are considered something public that doesn’t violate NIL rules.

They didn't use names in the past games, just school, position, jersey number, and year. For example, Barry Sanders was OSU HB #21, with the year he set the record.

Just using someone's name in text format does not violate NIL rules or player liking. That is only when you use images of them or create a character to look or act as them. For example, in OOTP Baseball they have every player in the game who ever played baseball in all of baseball existence. Over 500,000 ball players. Half of which or probably more than half are dead. The only use their name and stats. And when you play a game, they are all like stick figures. Other than being licensed with the league which covers current players they never had to pay all the older players not covered. So, using a name next to stats I think would be fine if they wanted to do it.
