NBA EXPANSION TAKES CENTER STAGE IN OFF-SEASON

The NBA announced today that it will be expanding to 32 teams for the upcoming 2016-17 season. The news not only excited the basketball community but fulfilled wishes for both Seattle and Montreal.

The city of Seattle has mourned the loss of their beloved SuperSonics since 2008 when the team packed up their bags and moved to Oklahoma City. It was only a matter of time before their cries would be heard and the Sonics would be born again. The team has dropped the "Super" from the name ushering in a new era of basketball in Seattle. The team announced that they will be playing their home games in the beloved Key Arena once again as they join the Northwest division in the Western Conference.


On the other side of the continent, Canada's wishes for a second NBA comes true as the league announced that the Montreal Nordiques will be playing in the Tim Hortons Centre this coming season. The Nords will be joining the Atlantic division where the war for the north will wage on between the two Canadian teams. The teams logo was released via social media and it was met with enthusiasm and nostalgia by all of the province of Quebec. The Nords logo and name feature not only the once famous Nordiques name that was once an NHL team in Quebec but the logo is reminiscent of the Montreal Expos logo.


The news of the expansion broke during the annual league meetings where the owners also voted to abolish the trade deadline, allowing trades to happen throughout the entire season. Only time will tell if the reborn Sonics can return to the glory of their past or if the north will have a new leader emerging from the shadows.

With the 2016-17 looming in the near future, teams have begun their draft day preparations. The draft is a time of hope for most teams. A hope that is built around the youth of tomorrow. Teams never know what exactly will come out of the draft. They may find the next Jordan or LeBron but on the other hand they may end up with an Adam Morrision or Darko Milicic. Following, is the court and design uploaded? Also, when you actually play a game do the announcers say Montreal? I downloaded a Calgary one and they didn't even say the city name.

It's because for the expansion cities Calgary is not listed so they won't say it, Montreal is so they will say it, I believe
