Time to start up a new season of FOOL-X baseball!

Getting exports now.

(I have a ton of PMs and am on a conference call for work, so might start up slowly)

Half of the PMs are probably from me as I try to figure out what the heck I'm doing.

Good luck to all.

Muñíz Raps 300th Roundtripper
Monday, April 13th, 2043: The Chicago Southpaws defeated the Washington Freedom 9-5 yesterday in a game that featured Juan Muñíz's 300th career home run.

In the clubhouse, the Southpaws third baseman spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?"

On his historic day, Muñíz banged out 3 hits in 4 at-bats and scored 3 runs with 2 runs batted in.

In his career Muñíz has hit .249 with 1596 hits, 340 doubles, 41 triples and 301 home runs. His totals also include 1029 RBIs and 938 runs scored.

Peña Is April's Top Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2043: António Peña took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 25-year-old Beach Boys starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 18 batters in 34.2 innings and compiled a 3.12 ERA.

Pirates Hurler Named CL's #1 Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2043: As Tzu-yu Jin hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for April, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Plantana once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Jin put pressure on the Pirates to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 2.57 over 35 innings last month. He also rolled up 21 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Plantana and to every other team in the league.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2043: Miguel Costello was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Costello batted .345 for Maricopa, slapping 30 hits in 87 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 10 runs and scored 15 times.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2043: Vern Román earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish St Louis third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Román hit .273 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 11 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Gijsberts Twirls Freedom to Shutout Win
Sunday, May 17th, 2043: "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

And that's what Branco Gijsberts did as he led the Freedom to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Raindrops.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the St Cloud manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

Gijsberts yielded 1 hit and had 3 strikeouts and 4 walks in a standout performance.

This year Gijsberts has compiled a 2-2 mark with a 7.12 ERA in 8 starts.

Legends Hernández May's #1 Pitcher
Monday, June 1st, 2043: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Alonso Hernández still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 26-year-old starter for New York was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 40 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 0.82 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

This season Hernández has compiled a 8-2 mark with a 2.53 ERA in 13 starts.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Simon
Monday, June 1st, 2043: Clint Simon nailed down May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St Cloud to get a deal done before the 28-year-old becomes a free agent.

Simon seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-1 record, reeled off 35 strikeouts, worked 44 innings and held batters to a .212 average for the month as he posted a 3.07 ERA.

On the season Simon has a 6-3 record with a 3.84 ERA.

7.12 ERA even after the SO, that hurts. Maybe he just found it though.

Havana's Medina Snags May Batting Title

Monday, June 1st, 2043: Félix Medina battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Medina told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 29 games, Medina hit .363 with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

For the year Medina has hit .308 with 15 home runs, 42 RBIs and scored 43 runs.

Monday, June 1st, 2043: Youngster Miguel Costello emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .310 with 1 home run and 13 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Costello enjoy the limelight.

Costello is batting .325 this season in 52 games with 2 home runs, 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 65 hits in 200 at-bats.

Chicago's Moore Gets 2500th Hit
Friday, June 19th, 2043: The Chicago contest with St Louis featured a real shining moment: Richie Moore, the Southpaws shortstop, collected career base hit #2500. That his team lost the game, 17-15, took away only a little bit of the luster. Fittingly, the 35-year-old Moore, who went 3-for-4, received a warm ovation from the The Brewery crowd.

In 2266 career games, Moore has put up a .308 average, collected 534 doubles, 79 triples, and 460 home runs, driven in 1683 runs, and scored 1637 times.

RL Premier Pitcher is Maricopa's Ohayashi
Wednesday, July 1st, 2043: Toshiharu Ohayashi has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rattlers bullpen ace collected 4 saves and 17 strikeouts in 20.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .208 average and posting a 2.18 ERA and a 2-0 record.

For the year, Ohayashi has collected 5 saves in 34 relief appearances. He has also rung up 53 strikeouts and 15 walks in 52 innings while registering a 2.60 ERA and a 3-1 won-lost mark.

RL Batter of the Month Honors to Canseco

This year Canseco has collected a .297 batting average to date with 93 hits in 313 at-bats, 75 RBIs, 22 home runs and scored 58 times. He has played in 78 games.

Howard Tabbed RL's Top Rookie
Wednesday, July 1st, 2043: Will Howard's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Portland center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .337 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Howard also scored 8 times and drove in 14 runs.

So far this year, Howard is batting .300 with 2 home runs and 31 RBIs.

Sensational Month for CL Rookie

Wednesday, July 1st, 2043: Michael Arrington is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the St Louis hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .294 average with 32 hits, 3 home runs and 16 RBIs.

Arrington is currently batting .305 with 5 home runs and 44 RBIs.

3000 Hits for Hunt
Friday, July 17th, 2043: Curt Hunt has gone through many bats during his playing career. None of them means as much to him as the one he used to crack career hit number 3000 at The Brewery yesterday.

The 42-year-old Banana Sluggers first baseman told reporters after the game, "I plan to keep this bat at home in my own private Hall of Fame."

It was a happy day for Hunt from the standpoint of the 3000-hit milestone, but a little disappointing, too. Despite his achievement, Havana dropped the contest to the St Louis Hops 9-6.

For the day Hunt finished the day with 1 hit in 4 at-bats.

Hunt has a career .286 average with 3000 hits, 552 doubles, 64 triples, 484 home runs, 1884 RBIs, and 1783 runs scored to date.

At age 42, the Career-long Ann Arbor Wolverine and now Havana Banana Slugger Curt Hunt is the 30th player in FOOL-X history to hit 3000 hits in a career.

His ratings are starting a slow slide, but I wonder how many more years he'll go before he retires. He could possibly play another year after this even to move up the record books.

To date this season Jin has compiled a 11-6 record with a 3.01 ERA in 21 starts.

Orr Records Shutout Against Pirates
Saturday, August 22nd, 2043: Alan Orr of the Washington Freedom was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Plantana Pirates with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 5-0 shutout.

In the postgame comments, the Plantana skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Washington hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.

Orr told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."

This season Orr has compiled a 9-7 mark, 3.64 ERA and made 25 starts.

Maricopa Halts Castillo's Hitting Steak
Friday, August 28th, 2043: Waikiki first baseman Felipe Castillo came into today's game against the Maricopa Rattlers on a hot streak. When it was over, the Rattlers did their job very well. They beat the Waikiki Beach Boys 6-4 and cooled him off at the same time. Maricopa stopped Castillo without a hit and his 31-game hitting streak came to an end.

The 28-year-old Castillo only had a few words to say after the game, "I had a chance to do it and I came up short."

His manager commented, "What Felipe did was exciting and quite an achievement. It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 31 games in a row. I'm really proud of him. And I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

Thus far this year Castillo is hitting .328 with 31 home runs, 103 RBIs and 91 runs scored.

Republic League #1 Hurler is Wilson
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: It was a monstrous August for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner, John Wilson of the New York Legends. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Wilson recorded 5 wins and 2 losses in 7 starts. Throwing a total of 37 innings, he yielded 30 hits, mowed down 32 on strikes, gave up 8 walks and put up a solid ERA of 3.41 in a stellar month on the mound.

So far this season Wilson has a 17-7 record with a 3.18 ERA.

Reliever Payton August's Pitcher of the Month
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: At Julius Payton's age, not many pitchers can still get the job done. But he can still throw the ball. The 38-year-old reliever for Stafford was selected the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for August earlier today -- not only satisfying himself, but silencing critics who said he has lost too much to compete at this level.

The old man definitely still has it, making 15 relief appearances and throwing 18.1 innings as he chalked up 9 saves, 17 strikeouts, and a fine 0.98 ERA and a 2-0 mark.

This season Payton has rung up 28 saves. He is carrying a 9-3 record with a 2.07 ERA in 74 innings pitched.

Spring's Verhoeve Chosen RL Batter of the Month
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: Greg Verhoeve of the Spring Lions had a field day with Republic League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During August he compiled a .409 batting average, drove in 29 runs and scored 21 times. He also managed to pick up 9 walks to post a .449 on-base percentage.

Currently Verhoeve is batting .330 with 21 home runs and 110 RBIs.

Havana's Hunt Collects August Batting Honor
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: Curt Hunt earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .343 average, going 37 for 108 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Havana clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

For the season Hunt is currently batting .312 with 27 home runs and 80 RBIs. In 131 games he has reached base at a .427 rate and scored 112 runs to date.

August's Best Rookie Named by RL
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: Swinging a hot stick in August, Will Howard picked up the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award today.

The 24-year-old center fielder for Portland lashed 33 hits as he put together a .355 average with 1 home run. He also drove in 22 runs, scored 15 times and drew 6 walks on his way to a .385 OBP.

This year Howard is batting .322 with 5 home runs and 71 RBIs.

CL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star
Tuesday, September 1st, 2043: The Continental League Rookie of the Month Award for August goes to Dan Harris, the third baseman for St Cloud. He took the league by storm, hitting .327 and looks like he might just be a legitimate contender for the Rookie of the Year Award.

Harris tagged 34 hits in 104 at-bats, including 2 home runs, produced 23 RBIs and scored 14 times.

Harris is hitting .271 in 2043 with 65 RBIs and 12 home runs.

Donlon Slugs 300th Home Run
Sunday, September 6th, 2043: A big sigh of relief erupted from Dale Donlon after he hit his 300th career homer. The Las Vegas left fielder said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Donlon. He got his name in the league record books with 3 hits, 4 RBI, scored 3 runs and his team, the Las Vegas Wildcats beat the Waikiki Beach Boys 10-7.

Donlon knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Looking at his all-time stats, Donlon has a career .323 average with 1594 hits, 319 doubles, 52 triples, 301 home runs and 1152 RBIs to date. He has scored 1006 runs, walked 838 times and stolen 88 bases.
