Anybody still play Total Pro Football?

Anybody still play Total Pro Football?

i see Arlie did a new patch for it. version 1.42 4/27/05

http://www.400softwarestudios.com/in...howtopic=70415

Total Pro Football - version 1.42. This patch includes the following updates:

1. Coach salary editing.
2. Improved engine in regards to interceptions, returns and player returns for TDs.
3. CPU rosters now adhere to the 7-player maximum for the inactive roster.
4. Better CPU roster management in regards to total players and filling injured spots during the season.
5. Playing time shouldn't hurt your team's Morale on BYE weeks.
6. Multiplayer reporting issue with incorrect slashes.
7. Some bug fixes that leagues encountered.

I’m sorry to say that I got the game but have never played a complete season.
That was money out the window.

I bought it, and although I really enjoyed the draft, I couldn't really get into the rest of it and didn't play it that long. Maybe I'll fire it up again with the new patch.

I play it all the time. About 22 seasons into a career (I play out all my games and play alot of other stuff too).

I don't find gameplanning anymore confusing than any other football game. The thing is, in football, there are so many different situations (with score, field position, down & distance, quarter, etc) that if you are going to set up the AI for play calling, it inherently has to be pretty in depth.

hey guys

i been playing this game since the new patch came out. and its a lot better than when TPF first came out.

any of you that still have the game, and quit playing after a few games like i did when the game came out, should try the game again with the latest version.

since the game came out there been several patches done and a new one just a few days ago. i think Arlie did a pretty good job with it.

its not a FOF replacement, but if your looking for another football sim again, than install the full version 1.42 and give it a try again. you will be surprise how much better it is.

I have 1.42 and haven't encountered any rte's or ctd's. There were alot of rte's when the game first came out (thank you Mr. Stallings) but those haven't been an issue for me in a long, long time.

I've started playing it again and enjoying it so far - not sure how quickly I'll get bored of it. I still don't like the gameplan stuff at all.

But I quoted this because I did have one RTE while playing - during a contract negotiation in the offseason. Luckily, I save frequently.

Anyone else seeing this? I decided to give it another shot. Downloaded 1.42, ran a bunch of seasons while I was away. Stopped it midseason in 2022, and every team has 62 or more players on their active roster, some as many as 80. Here's a screenie of their total players on the roster. Every team has exactly 7 inactive, and no more than 3 on IR, so you can see how many are active from this. Is this unique to long-term sims, or is it a problem with all sims?

Just re-started. By midseason of the 2nd year in, every team has 57 or more players active, 7 inactive, 0 on practice squad. Most teams have 60+ players active.

Actually, I think SD is right in that it is something that occurs over time for long-term solo players. I will get a fix up tonight on the issue and let everyone know.

OK, found the issue. When I was testing the patch, I was using mostly Multiplayer save games as those were the ones that many of the fixes were geared. Because most had all human GMs, I set them to be CPU-run and used that to test the roster AI. Well, the problem was that there was a slight difference between a true CPU team and one owned by a human but set to CPU. I fixed that difference and the roster issues have now gone away. I am going to do some additional true single player testing just to be 100% and update the patch a little later tonight.

for my head coach it shows a preferred approach: West coast

for my offensive coor. its shows preferred offense: SmashBall

what gameplan shoudl i choose west coast or smashball to get the bonus for using that offense?

and if i decided to use a custom offense and pick the plays i want, will i get any bonus on offense?

thanks

Maximus, try version 1.43. It should fix any issues you have. I would also recommend everyone download it as well. It fixes the issue SD pointed out as well as a couple other issues from a while back that people sent me emails on:

http://66.193.175.87/redist/tpf_patch_143.exe

It's a smaller update file than normal (about 13 MB)

I bought the game just on the release day, played half of a season and left it untouched for a while. Played it again after some patches but never for more than a few games then left it again, mainly becuase bugs and the confussing gameplaning. How fun is it now? does gameplaning work? do they play as you tell them? any mayor issues with AI to play it single? I'm thinking on starting a new dynasty and could try this insted of fof2k4 as i guess that the future college game will alllow us to import the college players to the draft.
Also, if i download the full game now again, is it updated to 1.43 already? What abour rosters? where can i find the one more up to date?

Duplicated it:

Conference Center-->View Owners

The little slider thing that moves the view of the spreadsheet up and down isn't all the way at the top by default. When I tried to move it up and see the other Owners higher up on the screen, I got the RTE.

OK. Easily avoidable. More of an interface glitch than anything else. It turns out that even though the slider isn't all the way at the top, you are viewing the first owner in the original screen.

I'm a half hour into my first TPF experience. Right now I'm into the initial dispersal draft, am four rounds deep, and am pulling my hair out because it's taking about ten minutes between my pairs of picks in the snake-style draft. There is a button for "draft speed," but it doesn't do anything. Nice. All my picks are listed as being for another city/team on the "last five" screen -- that's nice, too.

I'm also seeing guys who are rated very highly, my scout seems to say they are top-grade players -- far better than anyone else out there at their positions -- and the scout snippets say things like "he'd be better as a backup." Does not compute.

So far... well, so far.

The draft speed button is a slider and if you drag it to the right it should speed up the time between picks considerably. Also, if you choose the "draft report" view, the round will go by extremely fast with the slider to the right.

The last 5 screen should correspond to the team you selected (the team in the lower part of the screen). Also, the scout comments correspond to how the player will play right now - so it's not uncommon to see a guy rathed 2.0/5.0 given the comments "he'd be better as a backup". But, again, that's true for this season.

Arles its a bug for 1.43 someone else reported it on the .400 forum

"just upgraded to 1.43 (from 1.42), and my sliders don't work; i.e., to increase salary offers, draft speed, etc. It just shows up as a drop-down menu arrow. It does 'work', if I keep clicking on it for draft speed, it does speed it up. Of course, I can't then slow it down (not that I'd want to)."

The "click on the slider" backdoor does seem to work for me, to a point. When I click it, the team on the clock seems to make its pick... so I can get through a round in one minute and 30 clicks, rather than fve minutes or so and interminable waiting.

Thanks for the responses.

edit: after many clicks on the "draft speed" slider, my draft is now moving quickly. Thanks again.

Sounds like your slider install got corrupted. You may need to reinstall the game.

Arles i unistall game again

and did a fresh install of the full version 1.43 and did a restart too.

and the sliders is corrupt. there is no sliders now to slide for draft and salary offers.

it was fine for 1.42

that why quiksand had to click on it so many times

OK, I see it as well (downloaded it at work). I will check out the project when I get home later tonight. My guess is the control somehow got corrupted. That certainly would explain Quicksand's confusion on it.

It's a custom control housed in the EXE - there are no external ocx or dlls for the slider.

NFLsim, best TPF league on the net HANDS DOWN has an opening with Tampa Bay. Contact me asap b/c the guys on the waiting list are nowhere to be found. You could slip right in.

We're in Week 9 of the 2006 season. Tampa Bay had the 1st pick in the 2006 Draft and selected QB Michael Kelley. This is his rookie season and he's quite good.

I'm giving it another shot too. I bought this thing when it came out and returned it 3 days later. I remember all the hype... The look was great, but the game was really frustrating to play. I played like 3 seasons and then I gave up. Hope it's better now. I'd really like a TPF2, with the ability to import rookies from Bowl Bound...

TPF 1.43 Individual season record stats for Int too high for a season

last 15 years in the NFL, the highest int per season player leader got was 8,8,9,9,9,9,9,9,7,9,10,8,9,9,9

i sim 15 years on tpf 1.43 solo play, fictional players and look at league season records for INT and the top 10 shows players got this many INT in one season: 18,18,17,17,16,15,14,14,14,14

league average stats per game for each season is ok for interceptions. its about 2.61 int per game average.

the text file for league average stats can be found in your league folder under stats.

so league average stats looks pretty good and consistent per season.
it just seems like individual players season record stats can be high in some category like INT was.

Might want to check on the others.

thanks

the total pro football text file for league average stats can be found in your league folder under stats. it list them by year you complete a season.

Because that is what turned me off the game, if some actions seems to not affect the game at all, i can't trust that other features are affecting it so why bother with setting up stuff that is not going to change anything? and at the end, why to play it? That was the reason for never playing more than a season. I didn't return the game just because i wanted to support 400ss guys as i do with all text sims developers. Luckily they learned the lesson and greydog is releasing awesome games so far like TPB.
