Is there an editor in the house?
I'm noticing an increasing amount of content being posted on the internet by mainstream, reputable news sources that contain obvious grammatical or spelling errors.
The latest example I found is this: Find the 2 errors. I have to wonder - do these sites utilize editors or at least proofreaders to check the stories written by their staff before posting them to the 'net? I'm no english major but it still bugs me to see obvious faux-pas like this - it implies to me that people just don't care that much about conforming to rules of good grammar. It's one thing to see everyday Joes like you and me posting on message boards misusing or misspelling a word, but when it comes from a news organization it makes me cringe. I suppose some will see this as no big deal... |

Depends on the organization. In my limited experience with the specific subject, I'd say no, most (or at least many) of them don't. At times, there's a clear attitude of "it's just the internet", other times it looks more like a procedural thing, that the stories go online at the same time they're sent to the editor, not after the editor/proofreader approves them.
