The definitive grammar post

Okay, let's post all the grammar mistakes we've seen over the years. Then we can sticky this and everyone will be forced to read it and acknowledge that fact at least once a quarter. I'll start.

1. your, you're

2. there, their, they're

3. its, it's

Please look these up, learn there proper usage, and don't misuse them ever again. Thank you for you're cooperation, err, your cooperation. I think.

Please add yours below.

Speaking of grammar mistakes, anyone else know the old joke that goes something like this:

student - Where are the textbooks at?
English teacher - You shouldn't end sentances in a preposition young man. Ask the question again please.
student - OK, where are the textbooks at, asshole.

Since apparently no one took this seriously I'll add a few more of my own.

4. two, too, to

5. lose, loose

6. which, that

7. effect, affect

8. less, fewer

9. most, almost

10. irregardless

11. whom, who

12. currently, presently

There, now we have a good dozen. =)

teehee

Some people will tell you irregardless is not actually a word, and to use regardless instead. The less already indicates the negative so there is no need for the prefix ir. Despite this it has still snuck its way into standard dictionaries. They just label it non-standard. Use at your own peril!
