Sorry to hear it, Todd.

That's the problem with being so good at your job (i.e., commanding top-$$$). You're the first one to get the axe.

You're so good, they can't afford you.

That's the way I'd look at it.

I got laid off about 9-10 years ago. I found out by accident (the CEO dropped off some signed checks to me, and mistakenly left the layoff plans on the bottom).
So I had a 4 month headstart to steal as many office supplies as I could. I stole so much I still have some to this day.
The funny thing is, they refilled my position within 2 years, and 8 years after I got laid off I was rehired as that person's supervisor.
So ... the moral of the story is: Steal as many supplies as you can before you go, and it will all work out in the end.

Sorry to hear it man...I didn't get the axe yesterday, but I know how those people feel that have had layoffs go through their company. It is no good.

Did you run over a family of black cats in a previous life or something? I had a very similar thought to the above

Sorry Tood to here that. Hope everything works out. ............I am nervous myself after I got a late afternoon outlook meeting invite for me to meet with my Director tomorrow morning and it did not have any meeting title which never happens. I was just saying in the other thread about how I "thought" my job was relatively safe since I was the SME at my place. I guess they could just decide to axe the whole team which is apossibility. Crap.

I guess that's a good way of looking at it. Sorry I didn't post it earlier, but I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck. I realized that post might come off...insensitive.

At least when one door closes, there are more that will open up. I left the Army last year and had been in for 13 years. There were still a bunch of different opportunities out there and I'm doing a lot better than I was back then. Who knows? Maybe this job just wasn't meant for you to be there long and something better will come along.

Update - updated and got my resume up on Monster (which I don't like so much, but it's busy) and got pinged twice tonight, one from a company in the top 50 to work for.

Fingers crossed

Todd, I know a recruiter based in Reston that has done really well for us (on the employer side) -- would you like me to get you two in contact with each other?

w00t!

Got hired this past week while on vacation to work as a SysAdmin at a small but growing wed-development company. The job hits all my sweet spots - great people, relaxed atmosphere, cool technology. I'm as happy as can be.

what the hell is "wed-development" anyway? I hope you haven't gone into wedding planning because that is the bottom of the barrel!!

*Disclaimer*
No offense to anybody in the business of wedding planning...I was just making a joke and have no issue with that line of work.
