Do You Ever...
When you're engrossed in a particular sim, and maybe you're sitting on the toilet or just chilling, do you ever start just giving press conferences or responses to questions reporters might ask you?
I just spent 5 minutes defending my shitty bullpen to thin air. They're trying their best for petes sake. |

Oh, I've totally done this. Right down to defending my shitty bullpen. I felt pretty noble about it too because they really don't deserve it with the way they've been playing. But, you know, team player...

OMG, I spent an hour during a conference-call yesterday - in my head - defending my decision to bat Arrieta 6th.

I don't think I could ever see myself pretending to do post-game or sideline interviews on the spot.
I'm more interested in pretending to sit for scripted, Sunday night Conversation-style puff pieces where I can control the interview and give in-depth explanations of my offseason moves. EDIT: It is also possible that I have been the subject of a nonexistent, long-form SI cover story about my rise from humble beginnings to the top of my profession. Yup. All the time. I haven't played many sims lately but every time I make a big free agency signing I do this. Also how is the newest OOTP? Assuming it doesn't require online, and would like to get a cheapish windows tablet to play it on.

Usually for me, in my head, it's an imaginary mid-week podcast during the FOF football season. I'm walking the dog, and I explain to myself the roster moves I'm making that week, what went right and wrong the previous week, and what I'm looking to see happen the next week.
Immersion is really important for text sims - obviously the game has to give us the tools for that, but I'd guess that most of us who have gotten into these games have found our own ways as well. |

I'd put a million dollars on Suicane referring to a Baseball Mogul dynasty and not OOTP. He doesn't much care for krauts. |

It is Suicane. It is probably Earl Weaver Baseball on a Commodore 64.

Haha, EWB was awesome. EWB II was either the first or 2nd pc game I ever bought. I remember trying to manually add rosters from the early nineties. Specifically remember editing Mark Whiten lol.

Earl Weaver was Amiga. Microleague Baseball was the hardcore sim of choice on the 64, though I was partial to SSI's Computer Baseball.

I guess I did run it on my Tandy 1000, not a C64.

OMG.. I do it all the time! My favorite is laying in bed going over the nights games in my head as I answer questions to fake reporters!

No sense starting another thread for this, but I was sort of doing what I alluded to in the OP just a few moments ago in the case of a fella named Mark Lemongello.
I'm playing the expansion Mariners and our staff was horrid for the first month, so much so that even though his ratings were no good, when I demoted one of our starters, I called up Mr. Lemongello. He was bad through two starts and made the decision that I would send him down following his 3rd start and bring back up a guy I had previously sent down. Well Lemongello throws a complete game shutout of the Angels in maybe the most surprising moment of the season thus far. I wikid him and it turns out he was a fucking maniac, like legit maniac. Was arrested for kidnapping post career. That's something. |

Wow, interesting wiki indeed. I also learned how to properly say his name - I used to call him "Lemon-Jello".

Gonna take a gander here. Suicane is likely playing an older version of Mogul. This would be due partially to a comfort factor of knowing what to expect in the version he's already playing and a bit of lazyness on his part in having to find and install the latest version. I will guess that he's playing 2012.

Heh, I'm actually playing Baseball Mogul Diamond which is 2 or 3 years old I believe. Truth is it probably doesn't matter much if you're playing 08,09,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 or 17, they're all essentially the same game as it doesn't appear that Clay really gives a crap about improving the game.
That being said, it's a fun, quick, easy game. With some simple house rules it can be as challenging or easy as you want it to be. The UI is fantastic and simple. I tend to play game by game and do my own managing, your mileage may vary if you want the game to do things for you, cause it's not the best at that. |

I do my best to support Clay.. but you're spot on. He has a patch just about every 3-4 days which tends to break other parts of the game and they all have felt the same for many years.
I'm deeply vested into OOTP, but I do go back to BM on lazy days. |

Feel like a quitter when you give up on a team? I just had to hold an imaginary press conference after my "firing" as Seattle GM. I did everything I could. Our system is stocked with good young arms but I guess five and half years of futility was too much for my owner to take. I'll land on my feet though, I've already been contacted by Toronto about taking over the Blue Jays, and wouldn't you know it, they just drafted this stud by the name of Bons. I'll be alright. |
