CL Honors Slick Fielder Award Winners
Sunday, November 8th, 2122 Good glovemen take pride in their defensive skills. They know they make a difference in baseball. Even on days when they don't get a hit, they feel they can make a difference in the field -- and they do. The Continental League announced its Slick Fielder Award honorees for 2122. This year's recipients are: Pitcher: Bill Sawyer (London Bishops) Catcher: Dae-yun Yi (Plantana Pirates) First Baseman: George Willis (Oshawa Mullets) Second Baseman: Ollie Huggins (Oshawa Mullets) Third Baseman: Jorge Serrano (Alberta Renegades) Shortstop: Julián Contreras (Washington Freedom) Left Fielder: Billy Hilton (London Bishops) Center Fielder: Willie Adkins (Havana Banana Sluggers) Right Fielder: José Vargas (Oshawa Mullets) This Year's Best Gloves Chosen by RL Sunday, November 8th, 2122 Making the play is the mark of great defenders. Spearing a liner, diving in the hole or crashing headlong into the wall makes no difference to these awe-inspiring fielders. Magicians they sometimes appear to be, showing up out of nowhere to rob a batter of a hit and to turn a hit into an out. Pitchers love 'em and batters curse 'em. These defensive wizards will collect their 2122 Republic League Slick Fielder Awards tonight: Pitcher: Lorenzo Solís (Las Vegas Wildcats) Catcher: Marc Germain (Spring Lions) First Baseman: Harry Norman (Portland Axemen) Second Baseman: Jon Hubbard (Cleveland Naps) Third Baseman: Iván Batista (Las Vegas Wildcats) Shortstop: Alberto Brito (Spring Lions) Left Fielder: Bernardo Suárez (Las Vegas Wildcats) Center Fielder: Carlos Santos (Chicago Hitmen) Right Fielder: Héctor García (Las Vegas Wildcats)

García Is CL's Top Rookie
Monday, November 9th, 2122 The 2122 Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award winner is Héctor García of the Bees. In the 2122 season the 25-year-old Omaha third baseman played in 162 games, recording a .295 batting average with 4 home runs, 60 RBIs and 71 runs scored. Best Rookie Trophy Presented to Underhill Monday, November 9th, 2122 Last spring Ben Underhill was happy to just make the Rattlers roster. He was overjoyed to see the name "Underhill" on the lineup card, too. Now the 26-year-old Maricopa second baseman has capped off his debut season by winning the coveted Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award. Underhill won the award by hitting .297 and collecting 200 hits, 30 home runs, 102 RBIs and 9 walks, along with 83 runs scored and a .306 on-base percentage.

Can someone help me understand this?
I offered Bill Sawyer 7 years at 92 MIL. Why on earth would he settle for 5 years at 73? Please help me with some perspective.

My guess would be the last year being a player option and the fact at 25 years old he becomes a FA sooner. The only person that truly knows for sure would be Markus. My point is I could very well be wrong.

I've been a bit miffed by this before. This time around I decided to not even offer him anything and settle for lesser targets.

To be fair, just going off of your numbers, you offered less per year than he got from the other deal. You were around $13 M per, while the other deal is around $14.5 M per. And that's on top of getting him out of FA early enough to get another big contract.
The option years do play their parts, too, as well as the breakdown of money over the whole contract, I am sure.

Not saying, BTW, that something messed up didn't happen. I have no idea. Just going off of what I am seeing from the numbers you quoted.

Yeah, the math makes sense only if the player feels he can stay healthy (in our league he would). I wonder how many people would take more money per year (about 1.5 mil more at base) instead of the promised 19 mil more for just two more years.
Not saying anything is wrong, nor am I upset, just wondering what others thought of it.
