Football betting discussion thread

I know we have some bettors here. And even if you don't bet and want to comment on the lines that would be great.

I placed a $20 bet before I left Vegas last week that Mizzou would win the BCS title. Pays off $1,520 on the $20 bet if it happens.

The lines that jump out at me this week are

Navy at OSU. OSU -21.5

San Jose at USC. USC -34- Freshman QB worries me a bit, but they are a machine and are going to want to make a statement before going into OSU week 2.

Buffalo at UTEP. Buffalo +8. They may not win but they will keep it close.

LSU at Washington. LSU-17.5. Sadly my first game as a UW student will be a slaughter. I can't believe this line is only 17.5. UW loses by 35.

Syracuse +6 v. Minnesota seems really low. I would be stunned if the Orange don't lose by more than a TD.

Only just started to look at a few of the games with teams I know fairly well. I'm taking OSU -5 1/2 against Georgia, I think. And I'm intrigued by that Oregon/Boise State game. I'd love to hear thoughts from the more experienced bettors on it.

I Like SC getting points against NCSU. I see this as a backwards line.

Over in BSU OU

Tonight I have...

North Texas +17
Oregon +3

Haven't made my Saturday bets yet, but I'm leaning hard on UGA +4 1/2 and Wake Forest -2.

I never did back in the day either. I did a little research and it sounds like they have fixed the issues around February of this year and now pay very well. They had an 18 month or so stretch that had a 40 business day wait if you were lucky.

I pretty much just make $25 and $50 bets, so it's not like they would end up having a reason not to pay me. I did hit 7 parts of a $10 8-team parlay once and missed the over/under on the 8th game by 2 points. It paid some ridiculous amount like $7,000.

Off to a good start going 33/4. I should have known better than to buy the over Kool Aid. Early games never get that high.

I am looking at Tulsa tonigh -14. IIRC they smoker Tulane last year and can score in bunches

Yeah, as Jeeber said, Tulsa's starting a new QB. I think they'll win, but instead I put a bit on the under at 62. I also think I'm going with that LSU -17 too.

Payout takes a long time, especially if you use CC. I requested a payout. It said it would take up to 20-25 business days. They mailed it on the 23rd business day.

How long ago? This thread is showing some quick payments. I saw other boards where the payments sound quick, the biggest issue they have had is 9 days to clear from a Canadian bank.

It's a long season, but my first major bet is Minnesota -6.5 over Syracuse. The line has moved to -7 at most places.

Syracuse has a new coach, new system, and barely enough players to fill their roster after new head coach Doug Marrone dismissed 16 players from last year's team. Additionally, they are starting basketball player Greg Paulus at QB, who hasn't taken a snap in live action in four years.

I think there's good value with Minnesota, who lost a lot of public support with five consecutive losses to end the 2008 season. They have superior talent in this matchup, and I think they'll get the cover.

LSU -17 will be my first big bet. Jake hasn't played in a long time and UW just can't match up.

If Minnesota doesn't win this game by at least 10 it will bring serious question to if this team can accomplish what is expected of them this year. Looking at the Syracuse team is reminds me of the 2007 Minnesota team with the number of players lost and coming off a bad season with a new coach. Add to that the major question that is Paulus playing QB and Adam Weber should be able to go out and get you your money.

I appreciate the support, but just to set the record straight, there's no such thing as a lock. Based on historical results, I expect to win about 60% of my plays, which means that I lose about 40% of the time.

Well, I was totally wrong on Paulus, as he played a hell of a game, with Syracuse getting the cover.

I also lost on Penn State -27, after they scored 31 in the first half and didn't score in the second half. I did cash with Notre Dame -14, and Oklahoma State/Georgia under 62 is looking good late in the 4th quarter.

Paulus played better than I'd thought he would, but Minnesota played horrible today. Didn't help that on top of all the other mistakes Weber played the worst game I've ever seen from him.

It's been a very good day for me. I'm 4/4 so far with Oklahoma State -5 1/2 over Georgia, Missouri +6 1/2 against Illinois, under 60 1/2 Nevada/Notre Dame and Texas A&M -14 1/2 over New Mexico. Not too shabby to start the football season.

Still have LSU and the spread tonight.

I read this after we lost.

I had UConn -4 to get back even for the day.

Don't worry, I'm kidding. Minnesota had a chance to put them away early and didn't. Either Paulus is pretty good or Minnesota is pretty bad.

I really like Ole Miss tonight at -18. That said, my only impression of them is the bowl game last year versus Texas Tech (Cotton?) and I was really impressed. I think they will come out and make a statement versus Memphis. I'm probably going to do a 6 point teaser like so:

Ole Miss -12
Miami +12.5

I know I'm biased, but 12.5 points seems like an awfully lot to give Miami in a series that hasn't had a final score of that margin since 2001, and you have to go all the way back to 1997 when FSU won by that much.

Yeah, technically I'm saying that I don't think Miami will lose by 13. I actually didn't tease it. Went with a parlay of Ole Miss -18 and Miami +6.5. So far so good...

Doesn't seem like Rutgers should be laying 5 to Cincinnati. Although I see that +170 on the money line for the Bearcats and i'm interested.

What is more American then spending Labor day wagering on exciting baseball action while waiting for the late football games?

I like that a simple parlay on Tampa in Game 1 with Toronto -1.5 brings back 6.5:1.

Anyone with a decent Rutgers-Cincy preview from a "betting" standpoint? I'm thinking of going with Rutgers (just to win- no points or anything) in ESPN's Streak for the Cash as they look like a pretty hefty favorite at anywhere from 4.5 to 6.5. Is there some reason I should stay away from the game?

SI

From what I've read, Cincy only has 1 starter back on a D that is switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Meanwhile, Rutgers is breaking in a new QB but has all 5 monster Olineman and 3 returning RB's. Cincy has studs returning at QB and WR. I like the OVER (47.5). So, I teased (6 pointer) with OVER 41.5 and Cincy +10.5. We shall see...

Cinci is breaking in 10 new starters on defense and Rutgers is breaking in a new Quarterback plus others at key positions.

Kelly is a better gameday coach then Schiano.

I'm going with Cincinnati on the money line at +170.

I honestly don't know who is going to win, but I don't think Rutgers should be so heavily favored.
