FTBE Five Year Perspective
OK... so here's the breakdown for the first five years of the Cheyenne Spirits.
Again, for those who aren't in-the-know... what I'm trying to do is run my offense around the tight end and the fullback, rather than the running back and wide receivers. That said, here's the first five year synapsis: THE RUNNING GAME note: each year feature FB as primary runner was set at 99%
Now, you've gotta keep in mind that 2006 is an anomaly because for six games I had no viable FB to feed the ball to. Also, the number of attempts were up in 2006 because that was our first successful year... we went from a perennial 6-10 team to 12-4. With success came more offensive plays in general, thus more carries. It looks like running more out of the I-Formation provides the FB with more opportunities and that the Weak and Split Formations feed the ball more to the running back. So for season six, I'll go back to 40% to 50% out of the I and see what happens. Frankly, what's still hurting me is the lack of a superstar FB... I'll still be without that in season 6. THE PASSING GAME
It would appear that I've hit a wall with the tight ends... can't seem to bump them any higher. But I suppose it isn't too bad, getting the QB to throw every third pass their way. Also, keep in mind that 95% of the attempts to the tight end are to my primary guy. The secondary tight end really never gets ANY action regardless of formation. 2006 is an interesting year to note as well... for my stud WR was out for six games. My stud TE got more work and had his best season. I'm now convinced it's better to have no wide receiver with a good catch rating. Having one great WR will not draw heat away from the TE, he'll just suck up receiving attempts. From here on out, I fill my WR corps with tweedle-dumbs with all speed and no catch rating. One final note... changing passing formations really hasn't seemed to create any difference on who catches the ball or not, so I didn't include that info here. ------------------ taghairm - "A wild species of magic was practised in the district of Trotternish that was attended with a horrible solemnity. A family who pretended to oracular knowledge was sewed up in the hide of an ox and was placed beside a waterfall. The trembling enquirer was brought to the place where the shade and the roaring of the waters increased the dread of the occasion. The question is put, and the person in the hide delivers his answer. And so ends this species of divination styled taghairm." [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-15-2001).]
