Snow storm

So we are in a winter storm warning and the forecast is for 12-16 inches of snow south of Denver which is where I happen to live. Geez it is only Sept 22nd and we already had five inches yesterday.

You're crazy.

Although, I've come to realize that it isn't the snow/cold I hate as much as the darkness at 4:00 PM

Snow is great, except for commuting. -40 degree wind chills, not so much.

You're making me so glad I moved out of Northern Vermont. I like having winter ... at a reasonable date.

I don't mind the snow, it's the ice and freezing rain that I hate.

I remember one August when I lived in Denver where there was a day that was 95+ degrees and the next it snowed over a foot. And I thought we had crazy weather swings in Texas...

When I lived in Wyoming they had a saying about the weather there. "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it'll change."

That's all over the midwest, too. I heard it all the time in Kansas as did my wife in Iowa and Missouri.

It's strange- here in Virginia, they don't talk much about the weather. Probably because it's a lot more pleasant and predictable.

I think they say that just about everywhere. At least everywhere in New England, as well as apparently the Midwest.

one spring week around Easter in 1991 in Eastern NM:
day 1: 85 and nice
day 2: 81 and nice
day 3: 80 in the morning, 4 inches of slush in the afternoon. Needless to say I was frozen because i was wearing shorts to class and work.
day 4: back to 70 and every gone
day 5: 5 inches of snow on the ground.

that's some crazy shit.

Yup out in the Rockies even southern parts like the Sangre de Cristo Mountains

can get some serious weather even in the late spring or early fall. Last year we had 38 inches of snow on April 22.

Here we go again. We have over a foot at this point and another 6-12 is supposed to fall in the next 24 hours. I love it

I think we're up to 2 feet at this point. Best part is it will all melt in a few days. If it was going to stick all winter, I wouldn't be enjoying it nearly as much

Does CO shut down when you get that much snow? We get a fair amount of snow in Cleveland but nothing like you get. If we got 2 feet of snow I would have no work - schools would be closed, ect. I know when I lived in Philly if they got 5-6 inches of snow people panicked and shut down everything.

yeah, if the forecast is right, it'll be mostly gone by Monday.

Didn't get quite as much up north, but still got in the area of 14 to 15 inches.

Still coming down here.

its different once you go south of the Mason-Dixon...they just dunno how to drive down there so a half inch of snow is simply a shut-down scenario

Funny comment made on a radio show when I lived near Charlotte NC

"We got 2 inches of snow and the entire state is locked down. You know why?

Because the entire state of NC has 60 snow plows where as someplace like oh BUffalo has 6 thousand."

It cracked me up at the time. As if Buffalo would bring out a plow for 2 inches of snow

Looks a lot like my patio, maybe a little more here. I have a table on my deck somewhere.

Roads in town stayed in remarkably good shape through the storm. Getting out onto the main highways was quite a challenge though. But it did shut down most of town. I got out of work for a day and a half.

Luckily the supermarket is two blocks away. I'll just walk there, rather than drive.
