We're Moving!! To Austin, TX... Looking for Info
Antmeister and I have decided that we will be moving to Austin, TX in the very near future (around January maybe February).
We were looking for any advice about the city you can give us... which neighborhoods to avoid, best schools (we have a 5 yr old and a 19 month old), places to shop, etc. etc. etc. NO STRIP CLUBS PLEASE. Any and all info will be GREATLY appreciated!! Links, anything will help. Thanks for reading. Last edited by Lorena : 11-14-2005 at 06:21 PM. |

On the trip out there, stop at Cattleman's Steakhouse just to the east of El Paso. Best damn steaks (and sides as well) I've ever had. Or stop in El Paso and go to one of the numerous Mexican restaurants for some fabulous eating. My favorites are Avila's and Grigg's, but you really can't go wrong anywhere in town.
As far as Austin itself, I can't help you one iota...

Born and raised in Austin.
Please don't move there. Thank you.

Austin has quite a lively music scene by all accounts. Antmeister, I think this could be your big break.

Dood, Austin has Austin City Limits, which may be the coolest music festival around.

Wrong! You're thinking of Great American Land and Cattle, which is good, but Cattleman's is far superior...

I'm in the Austin area. If you don't want to deal with traffic, then where you live will need to be close to where you work. As with any city, there are good spots and bad spots. I'm here to help with any specific questions you might have!

I have family that live in Lakeway and it is real nice in that area. Its right on Lake Travis which is a rec lake if your into that sort of thing. Just stay away from Hippie's Hollow.

I lived in Austin from 1986-1991, of course I was between the ages of 1-6, so I don't know what to offer except that I went to Hill Elementry school for Kindergarten and I turned out okay.
