OOTP is my crack cocaine. After being clean for a while, I relapsed recently. With this announcement I don't even think an intervention will break me.

I like a lot of what I read. The new pitching system, widgets, realistic arbitration and draft pick compensation all sound good. After a 1 year break from the series I might give the game another try.

New pitching system LOVE. Hopefully it works well. I love OOTP, but I do think the game has needed this for some time.

Lot of other things sound good, as well. Looking forward to it.

I'll probably end up buying it but the new features really don't give me a "wow" factor. I still with that the financial aspect of the game actually matter. For some reason it really bothers me that you can pretty much sign or re-sign anybody with out any repercussions.

This is only true when you are playing the game in commissioner mode. Otherwise you're restricted to your team budget.

Is there the time and/or ability to negotiate a 1 year deal in between when arbitration numbers are exchanged and the actual hearing like there is in real life?

Any chance mutual options will reflect real life more? Usually the team has to buy out it's side of the mutual option.

Another option I've always wanted to see that would cater to modern and historical tastes would be selling/purchasing players.

Teams purchase contracts of players from independent leagues on a fairly regular basis and was also historically a big part of player movement.

Funny how this always comes around the same time my tax refund does. Coincidence? I think not!

The pitching changes make this is a buy for me after skipping for a few years. I hope they are well implemented.

Not me, at least not until I find out if I can create a draft list for an MP league without it regularly removing the highlighting from guys that I've got on my list once I move another guy down to the list, or randomly deciding to remove a guy in the middle of my list when dragging someone else down.

Me too...Makes me a bit skeptical to see he's still using the old system too- Movement, Stuff and Control. Seems like this new system may just have been glued on. Hoping for the best though- I suppose time will tell......

I wonder how this will bode for importing rosters from older versions and historical? Come to think of it, maybe that's why he kept the old ratings in? We need more details!!!!

$10 more than the special pre-order price. That would be the smart-ass reply

$39.99 would be the genteel reply.

Ugh. Drafting 10 rounds was always a pain in the ass. At least hopefully there is some preference type tool so you can highlight the type of guys you like.

That's a bug that'll get fixed in OOTP 10

I definitely like the "Optional Reserve Roster Limit", assuming it doesn't create AI roster management chaos.

It was always depressing when I tried to start a small, fictional league, only to see that teams could hoard 100+ players unless you added a minor league.

Alright Markus, you have my money for the third year in a row. Not even SI can stake that claim. OOTP is the best baseball game on the market.

I could barely run OOTP 9 on my PC so I think I'm going to have to step away from the series until I get a new laptop.

FYI, I just happened to check the OOTP forums to see if there was an update on the release date, and got lucky. This is from Marcus this morning:

Quote:
Hey guys,

as the questions for the release time seem to get more frequent, I think it's a good time for an update from our side.

The game is currently in beta testing, and we're putting the finishing touches on the remaining new features. After that, it's bug fixing time. If all goes well, then we're looking at an early May release. However, things may happen which result in a delay. For example, I was ill for two weeks of the past 4 weeks, so if something like this happens again, the release will be pushed back of course.

We'll keep you posted

Cheers,
Markus

Ordinarily, I would be bummed about this, but another month will give me plenty of time to mess around with BBM before OOTP comes out...and allow me to hopefully time my pre-order so I get the discount but don't pay too far in advance (sorry Marcus!).

I know you're kidding - but seriously its one of the hazards of small development teams - if someone is ill then it means nothing gets done, on a larger team you can cover by shuffling people around, on a smaller team that isn't possible.

If enough people continue supporting Markus and OOTP then eventually I sincerely hope OOTP Developments will grow in a similar manner to what happened with SI.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. I'm a huge fan of SI's soccer franchise, but I'd prefer that they stick to that and leave the other games that I enjoy alone.

I don't see where Marc said he wanted OOTP Dev to turn into a clone of SI. He simply said he would like to see them have the same kind of success SI has had, and be able to grow from a couple of developers into a high enough revenue generating business to allow a larger team of developers.

Wasn't at all meaning to imply that I wanted OOTP to become anything like an SI product - just trying to offer support to a fellow developer I respect.

I have no say in the evolution of OOTP and I know many people who enjoy it a lot.

PS - Incidentally when Markus worked with SI he had full say in how OOTP developed, while I offered as much support as I could at no point did I intrude and tell him 'what to do', I'm well aware of the fact that my knowledge of baseball (and indeed what fans of OOTP want) is somewhat limited.
I enjoyed discussing things with Markus not least because it gave an interestng skew on how and why we did things on FM, indeed I can honestly say working with Markus was quite inspirational and definitely helped me with coming up with some new ideas and features for FM.
I'm sorry that the partnership with SI didn't last, but I'm very glad Markus and OOTP are still thriving and I try and support them both where I can and I count Markus very much as a friend.

Some nice new screens via the newsletter. I really like how you can see your bench players and rested relief pitchers all in one screen now.

Also love that the out of town scoreboard is back!

I preordered the game. I've joined a forming 30-man online league with some guys who used to play on version 6.5. Should be interesting as I've never played OOTP as a multiplayer game before.
