"You need to send your files as attachments not inside the email"
Huh?
I'm trying to send someone 3 files (2 JPG, 1 EPS). They keep claiming there "is not attachment" with the email, but that the images just appear inside the email. They claim that since the images are in the email they can't get them as files. I'm not quite sure I understand, because ... I've sent, resent, and resent this email again ... from Outlook, from Thunderbird, through the web ... to Outlook, Thunderbird, ... to various emails from different email providers. They call come out the same. The images always appear when you open the email, but they also always appear as downloadable attachments. What am I not getting here? You can download the attachments, because they are there. Or if they weren't, you could just right click on the image inside the email.

WinZip them, and send them as one file. Whoever is receiving them has a retarded mail program.

Yeah, the "fault" is most likely on the recipient's end. Some email-programs cough*outlook express*cough, have a tendency to show attached pictures "inline" in the email-body..

Even if they show 'inline' the person should be able to right click and save them to disk I'd expect (not using the retarded mail package in question so I don't know for sure - but I'd expect this to be the case).

First of all, you seem to be assuming that everyone knows about "right click --> save image as". Based on my own experiences, I doubt that half of all computer users know that. (Hell, in my experience, I'm not sure half know what "right click" means)
Second, I have run across a few random cases where, for whatever weirdass reason, the image in the email won't be clickable. Damned if I've ever figured out why it happens, but once in a blue moon I've known it to happen. Each time, it's been some funky combination of email programs that don't like each other at that moment or whatever.

I'll try zipping them. It's either an ID-ten-T error on their part or some weird email program. Even if I send them from hotmail and open it through Outlook I'm able to download/open the attachments under the "Attach" field.
NOTE: Now I think I know what their problem is. When you double click on the attachment (not the picture) icon, it opens it up through the default photo-editor. It doesn't give you the option to save it, just open it. They have no idea you can save it from the photo editor (File - Save As). ID-ten-10 all the way. |

If the recipient has GROUPWISE, expect this confusion from a basic user.
They may have to open an extra 'quick viewer' to see the actual attached files. |

GroupWise handles attached images as it would any other file attachment. Quick Viewer only comes into play when a person double-clicks on those images instead of right-clicking and choosing Open...then it opens the file within the program.

I sent them as a ZIP. I also uploaded them to our website. If they can't figure this one out I will scream.
