Wow - How about the Manning boos? (and draft commentary)
Every time someone mentions any Manning on the draft show, everyone in the room boos like hell. Crazy, man...and funny.

Yep, Archie and Eli have made Eli VERY unpopular... even among the Giants fans.

They ALWAYS boo. I think they'll get over it, once he gets there and starts playing.

I agree. I bet Eli feels like an ass. To have one of the most prestigious honors in sports (being the #1 draft pick), to now turn sour becuase Daddy had to open his mouth. I hope he goes 2nd. Todd |

According to the interview on WFAN yesterday, it was Eli's and his manager's decision to let the Chargers know that he didn't wish to play there.
In light of the Tillman death, it makes Manning look like an even bigger jerk. |

How does Tillman have any effect on Eli? Totally unrelated. It will be funny when Eli gets traded to the Giants tho. |

Wow, I love how the facts have no bearing on anyone's opinion here.
Archie manning wasn't even involved in this until Tagliabue called him and asked him to step in. Yes Eli doesn't want to go to San Diego, if I were him, I'd say the same thing, I don't want to waste my career and health on a team that shows no signs of having any interest in competing in the NFL. Everyone has said that the Chargers letting this whole thing out in public made the single stupidest mistake in NFL draft history. They lost all leaverage for trades and with their fans. The Chargers destroyed this situation, they did it to themselves. Call Eli whatever you want, I don't fault him for wanting to have a better future than what san diego could ever offer him. I hope he demands 3x what any other first rounder would get and sits out if they don't pay it. The fans at the draft are a pack of assinine jackals, talk about showing no class at all. wow. |

The thinking is, and I don't think it's that great of a stretch...selfishness vs. selflessness. I'm not saying that I personally would "boo" Manning, but it's pretty obvious that's what the audience at the draft is thinking. Basically, in-between "boo"s for Manning you have chants of "USA! USA!". I don't think it's a stretch at all to come to the conclusion it's one of the reasons the audience is giving Manning a hard time.

RendeR - I agree. This is the only time in the nest 7 or so years that Eli will have any say to where he plays. I don't have a problem with him saying "I don't want to play in X" if that's what he feels.

Not true, and Berman talked about this. The Colts had Marvin, a new GM in Polian (who led the Bills) and Mora who had turned around NO. What does SD have? A coach who might get canned after this year? They have a RB (LT) that's it. |

There is a huge difference between the bad colts team that took peyton and the train wreck that is the current san diego chargers. The colts already had a star reciever, a quality RB and a top 20 defense at the time. San Diego has LaDanian Tomlinson, and nothing more. HUGE difference. San Diego is the worst franchise in football top to bottom right now. |

And a team that went 8-8 in 2002 (San Diego).

How are they more of a 'joke' than the Bengals a few years back? Indy in the mid 90s? You are acting like this is a new level of joke, which is totally not true at all.

Only barely. They hired a new GM and coach... big deal. They were still a joke. If SD had the #1 pick that year and Indy had #3 (and moved up to #2), it would be SD in the playoffs last year, and Indy in the bottom 5.

You are trying to equate the Colts that picked Peyton to the Chargers that picked Eli. NOT the same situations, you don't want to see it that's fine. You must have missed Berman's anylsis or you just choose to ignroe it, w/e. |

Thats true, but what is San Diego doing right NOW to show any signs of making intelligent decisions? I'm not saying that this isn't at least a little selfish on Mannig's part, but looking at that mess in SD I completely understand why he would refuse to go there, that team is a dozen good players and probably half a decade away from be competitive in this league. |

You're ignoring the fact that San Diego has NO TEAM, they have no talent beyond Tomlinson, nothing. That Colts team already had the other pieces in place and needed very little beyond Peyton to bring them up to speed. |

there was also some interesting information brought up yesterday: The Chargers have made the Playoffs 4 times in the last TWENTY years. And haven't hada winning season since 1995. Now you couple that history, with the status of the team right now, and quite frankly, I think Manning is only being smart. He can't take that much traash onto his shoulders and do much with it. |

Is that why the Colts finished 3-13 the year before? A team that 'has the pieces in place' doesn't finish last in the NFL. Now the main question is what was the MAIN difference between the 8-8 team of 2002 and the 4-12 one last year? The reason is because Brees suffered a huge sophmore slump. Everything else was basically the same.

ESPN is reporting that the Giants backed out on a last minute deal that Cleveland was looking to trade up for Taylor.

Will you look beyond the records? The Mannings saw promise in Ind (and rightfully so) while they don't in SD and I agree with them. Big deal SD went 8-8 and over-acheived they still have nothing besides Tomlinson. |

What, so Indy had Faulk, a coach who had a proven past and a new GM? SD has Tomlinson (better than Faulk at that stage). Schott is a coach who has a proven past (who may not last, granted). You can't bring in Harrison, because at that time he wasn't a star, and no one thought he would be. The new GM is only difference I can really see.
