BCS Matchups
I'm almost looking forward to Ohio State-Notre Dame as much as I am Texas-USC. West Virginia-Georgia, not so much.

Yeah we are ranked #22 now. We really screwed the pooch by not practicing in pads for as long as we did. Should be a good game.

it will be good. all around good matchups, although I would rather see a team like Oregon (or VT or LSU) rather than West Virginia.

I'm a little surprised that Virginia Tech goes to the Gator Bowl over Miami.

Ohio State-Notre Dame. No matter who wins. We all lose. When it all comes down to it, however, I will go with the evil over annoyance in this one. Alamo Bowl. Dec. 28. Michigan vs. Nebraska. Well, we finally got the game we've always wanted. Too bad it's 8 years too late.

I'm trying to figure out how I can arrange things so I can make the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte on New Year's Eve. My alma-mater (South Florida) against my adopted local team (NC State) just 3 hours away...

ah crap, the Sun Bowl took Northwestern over Minnesota. I would've liked to see the Gophers take on UCLA. But at least we'll beat Virginia (most likely, anyway) in the Music City Bowl. I think the Peach Bowl matchup of Miami-LSU will be real good as well.

I'm glad I've already got tickets for the Akron/Memphis Motor City Bowl!!!
I guess there should be a lot of offense, if nothing else. |

Not too thrilled about FSU vs Penn State. Great names, but FSU is not a BCS team.

To be fair - every report I've read about Boise has came out that the bowl is a great experience for the players. Not the best for the fans to get to, but teams have always been treated extremely well.

I know no one cares about WVU v. UGA, but I'm thinking it's going to be a fun game, even though its basically a home game for the Dawgs. WVU is one of those old school run first, run often, run all the fucking time teams, with a very good defense. Should be interesting to see them against Georgia.

I think Ohio State wins by 10+. Remember last time Notre Dame made a BCS bowl game? They were blown out in the Fiesta Bowl by Oregon State. They had two losses and there was a lot of speculation whether or not they belong, just like this year. In my opinion a good defense beats a good offense anyday. Plus Troy Smith has come a long way this season and should have a field day on ND's defense. |

Interesting how the bowls work. Three SEC teams that LSU beat -- Alabama, Auburn, and Florida -- get Jan. 2 bowls. LSU gets the Peach Bowl Dec. 31. OTOH, LSU gets a matchup with Miami in the Peach Bowl, a matchup better imho than any of the other three SEC matchups and better than the Sugar Bowl matchup. LSU fans generally see this two ways; we're screwed by the SEC, but we end up with a glamour matchup. Of course the other problem is that LSU better be ready to play its best game if it wants to play with Miami.

Even though the Peach is played on Decemeber 31st, it has become as "prestigious" as most January 2nd bowls. It really isn't a slight at all (and generally is one of the best football matchups of all the bowls). |

Actually I guess it is Dec. 30, based on the bowl listing I read. But besides being a prestige matchup, it is the only game on that night. It is not competing with two or three other bowl games. And the Peach matchup is just as good as most of the Jan. 2 matchups. What irritates is that the payout is a good deal less than the Jan. 2 bowls. So SEC teams LSU beat end up getting more money due in part to SEC politics and in part to BCS and bowl politics. But, from the lsusports.net announcement of the bowl invitation: "The LSU-Miami matchup will be the only non-BCS game featuring a pair of top 10 teams. As a matter of fact, the LSU-Miami contest features teams with a higher combined ranking than that of the Nokia Sugar Bowl, which will also be played in Atlanta." So that doesn't sound too bad at all. Last edited by JW : 12-04-2005 at 10:11 PM. |

Sucks that PSU has to play a 4 loss team, but it will be nice to beat on Bowden after all the crap that JoePa has taken in the past couple of years. |

They're both going to hold on too long - they both know that no one will even touch this record, so whichever one of them gets it, is going to hold it for eternity. In fact, I'm pissed JoePa had a great season this year just because it increases the chances of Bowden staying even longer than he probably thought he would have to. Just because Bowden's still a nice guy and media-savvy and not some crotchety old man doesn't make him any more focused on his own immortality than Joe Pa is.

Picking a side in the OSU/ND game is the toughest choice I've had to make since OSU and Miami played for the title. And that game ended in the worst possible way - OSU won and Glen gave up the game-winning TD. I think OSU should win this game easily because ND's schedule just wasn't that tough, but I still might have to root for ND.

Yeah, it really is a great game. I'm surprised that the money is much lower than the Jan. 2 bowls, really. It makes as much money as any of them. Doesn't all the conference teams split the money, or is it the team gets half and the conference splits the other half? |

In the ACC, it's a total revenue-share. All monies after compensating teams for their efforts to be at the game are divided 12 ways. Same thing happens in the NCAA tournament. In this way, Duke can live off FSU in football, while FSU can live off Duke in basketball.
