FOFC Gift Exchange Year 2
It's getting close to that time of year, and we will be doing a gift exchange once again. Let's stick with the $30 spending limit that was used last year. Unlike last year, however, it will not be done in pairs, so you will not know who is sending you a gift. Please reply to this thread if you would like to participate, and after posting, PM me your address. I will keep the list updated.
Cutoff will be: Friday night, 10:00pm December 2nd - with gifts having to be mailed out by Saturday, December 17th. 8 days should be sufficient time for everyone to receive their gift by Christmas. We will do it secret santa style, so after the sending deadline we can make a thread with people guessing who their Santa was. Or you can tell the person, its really up to you. I am adding people to the list who have expressed interest in the other thread, so if you are on the list already just send me your address. The List: DaddyTorgo - Address received Flasch186 - Address received JPhillips - Address received George W Bush - Address received oliegirl - Address received MizzouRah - Address received Eaglesfan27 - Address received st. cronin - Address received Passacaglia - Address received Barkeep49 - Address received indoorsoccersim - Address received TheLionKing - Address received TroyF - Address received RPI-Fan - Address received Farrah Whitworth-Rahn - Address received Airhog - Address received JeeberD - Address received Timmae - Address received Suicane - Address received Last edited by Joe : 12-02-2005 at 11:09 PM. |

I don't think it would be. Everyone should have a post office nearby, whoever got you would just need to not order something online, as those orders are usually sent UPS. |

what if we turned this into a dirty santa game? We could play it on here, with a few simple modifications to the rules. The first one would be that everyone keeps their gift until the game is over. I think it could be done easily, however I am not sure how long it would take to play here...

I would like to participate as well. Doing Secret Santa was one of my favorite things I did in college my Freshman year.

now here's a question for everyone. should it be secret santa style? or should we let the recipient know who has sent the gift, as I mentioned in my first post? I guess you kind of have to put a return address on the packages, right?

I'd say secret santa style and we try to guess who it is. The return address thing might be an issue, certainly, but I think just kind of "not looking" might do the trick? Plus, although the address certainly could be an indication, I know I don't generally put "RPI-Fan" as my return name.

true, but most of us have the location field filled out, but you could just not look. some of them are unique, unless you live in Georgia like much of the board.

Also, for stuff that gets sent directly from an online retailer (which would be a fair portion, I'd say), the location wouldn't be an issue. So I'd say to not give it out and at least have some people have to try and guess.

yeah, I think most of us are reasonable enough and not huge assholes that the average would be like 20-30.

We didn't have that problem last year. I think it's great that an online community can do something like this. Don't cry, but it was nice to get my Best Buy gift card last year. |

I apologize, but I really worry that three days just won't be enough time for me to acomplish this. Could we move the registration deadline to earlier in December?

I personally think that the first of december is good enough. This thread will have been open for 2 weeks. Anyone that wanted to signup will probably have done so already...

Yeah, I agree with that too. Last year's deadlines were spaced the same so I just went with that. But I have altered the schedule for registration to be done by December 2. I'll have more time on the weekend to send out the PMs than I would on a weekday, so that works better from my end as well. Also, does anyone happen to know (or want to look in the old thread) how many people were involved last year?

What about if we all send a list of 3 or 5 things that we are "interested" in...teams we follow, our favorite color, favorite movies, etc??? That way if one of us gets someone we don't know very well, we have a "guideline" and might not stress so much over what to buy? No rule that you have to stick to the guideline, but at least it would be there as a safety net...

That's why I did a pairs exchange. Something like this might work (example) JeeberD Address Favorite Teams Cardinals, Blues, Rams, Mizzou Favorite stores Best Buy, Blue Note shop, Target I'm open for anything sports related, but I like Robert Redford movies and anything with Pujols on it. |

That would be a good idea. Some people have the "favorite team" spot filled in on their profile I know as well. I can pass on whatever info is sent to me. Otherwise you may have to look at the person's posts if you don't know them that well, and that will be one hell of a chore for whoever gets JeeberD. We could also just match up the chicks. |

Good luck buying a gift for me. Can you buy a giftcard to a liquor store? Even better, does anyone know of a pot dealer that ships to the great white north? Just covering my basis, incase I get suicane.
In honestly though, maybe the best gift would be an empty box. To symoblize his boxing.

Liquor stores around here have giftcards. MGM is one that comes to mind, I don't know how widespread those are. Whoever gets Suicane HAS to get him that fisting book from amazon that I posted about in another thread. |
