I got this in an email from the Vikings today. Whats up with this? I can see doing it sporadically, but patting down everyone? |

Have to take a week's vacation just to get in and out of a stadium.. seems WAY too excessive.

Not surprising, I believe every event I've attended at Phillips Arena in the past 2-3 years has included a pat-down search. And that covers everything from NHL games to Barnum & Bailey Circus.

This could really dampen my banana smuggling operations.

Nothing new here in Missouri either. Have had "pat downs" for the past 3 years in home Mizzou football games. The reason "pat-downs" is quoted is that either me or a friend has smuggled a flask (or even a bottle) into about half of those games. Really encouraging for how effective they are. Though I guess a middle-aged middle eastern male might face more scrutiny.

I think panerd's point is pretty good, there's probably a lot of difference from one venue to the next.
At the aforementioned Phillips, it's basically an airline type search minus the walk-through machines. All, and I do mean ALL, pocket contents go into the little bowl, you're patted down & if there's anything they don't like, you're then wanded. And like I said, that was just to get into the circus.

You may end up patting too agressively and deflate their chests, but if you find an application, let me know. I would like to work on patting down the Charger Girls though. Oh how I miss the Charger games. hxxp://www.cheerleader.com/ChargerGirls/04/04Chargers1.jpg |

I know they didn't do anything like that for Finding Nemo and the one NHL game I went to in 2002-03 didn't involve it. We had gone to virtually all of the home games for the Gladiators over in Gwinnett and they weren't doing pat-downs, bag searches, or anything like that after the first two games. |

Mentioning Gwinnett, now that I think about it, I don't recall them even searching beyond maybe bags/fanniepacks/etc even for Metallica. But with the pretty dramatic difference in experiences with events at Phillips, I wonder if: a) the event promoter controls the level of searches OR b) I wonder if it's different at different gates (IIRC, I've gone in the same gate at least the last 3 visits there, basically the ones I'm thinking of with the tougher searches).

maybe its just a difference from venues, but at the Metrodome I've never seen more than making people open their purses, and they didnt even search, they just looked at whats on top. Oh, they make you unzip your jacket too. And at the Target Center, they don't even do those things.
