Why are these DVDs normally so cheap again? Something to do with the supplier?

Hmmmm ... I'm not sure the name of the site really matches the prices. I did a few comparisons between this site and Amazon and their prices are similar; in some cases Amazon was cheaper, in some cases DeepDiscount was cheaper, but the differences were negligible. There was one TV set I saw that is $62 at Amazon and $70 at DeepDiscount. The 20 percent off is the only thing that really makes this a value.

Also, Warner Bros. has a rebate on their DVD TV sets:

http://images.amazon.com/media/i3d/01/wbtvpdf2.pdf

I picked up 1-4 of the West Wing, Season 1 of the OC, and Season 1 of Arrested Development (not a WB produced show, but it was cheap). Cost $198 (after rebates), but its worth it. Seeing as how I haven't bought anything for myself lately, it feels nice.

Also, I believe the codes USATODAY and DVDTALK also walk, if you want to place more than one order.

Web sites like DeepDiscountDVD are what keeps Amazon and Best Buy from gouging you. Competition makes it better for the buyer so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I usually just get my DVDs used from the local Hollywood Video. 4 for $20, pretty good selection, and a 1 year warranty.

son of a bitch!!! i just ordered from deepdiscountdvd a few weeks ago, not thinking their summer sale would be until the end of july. oh well, i still have some stuff in my wish list. also i was comparing the prices of dvds i got at best buy with a 15% off coupon, and they're equal to what this site charges as the normal price.

So let me get this straight. The prices displayed on the site are the normal prices, and if you use that coupon code at checkout, it takes 20% off? Just making sure I understand it, because the prices I see on the site are no more than about 30-50 cents less than I've seen for the Bogarts in question elsewhere, and in some cases a dollar or two higher.

Sack seems to get it. DDDVD doesn't really having anything to do with keeping Amazon.com and Best Buy from gouging you ... heck, Amazon practically invented and mastered the concept of selling things at a loss to gain market share. There is plenty of competition in the marketplace from Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, BN, Boreders, etc. DDDVD doesn't really keep anyone honest.

Because it is much less reliable and has far more reported problems than Amazon, Best Buy or larger sites, I wouldn't make a regular purchase from this site. The 20 percent discount is the only thing that makes this appealing. Their prices are comparable to other discount retailers; the name of the site would suggest their prices are substantially lower.

Don't get me wrong -- I say load up on the discount. I am. It's a good deal. I've been waiting for it myself.

kcchief,

DeepDiscountDVD has been around since 2000. That means companies like Amazon have had at least 3-4 years to lower their prices. As someone who has shopped at DDD since 2002, I can tell you that DDD earned their name "deep discount". There were many times when I saved $20 - $50 on a single boxed set from DDD versus Amazon. It's getting harder to do now as Amazon and others have been forced to lower their prices.

PS: I believe DDD does pricematch.

yep they do pricematch. and sometimes you can find good deals. Like I bought Beyond the Sea the week it came out, and saved $5 on it, it was $15 here and $20 at places like Best Buy. And the 1st season of Deadwood is $10 cheaper. So not on everything, but on many things it is much better.

I don't disagree that some sets are significantly cheaper at DDDVD. I've also seen it the other way -- I have found sets $10 cheaper at Amazon. It depends.

I went through the order I made during the sale and compared the prices to Amazon. All but one regular price was cheaper at DDDVD. Some movies on my list were a buck cheaper at DVD. A lot of the boxed sets I bought were much closer in price, all within a dollar. If I'm buying a boxed set and one site is $35.99 and the other is $35.67, it doesn't really matter that much to me.

All I meant originally is that with a name like DeepDiscountDVD, I expect a DEEP DISCOUNT -- 1 percent is not a deep discount. I think the name is misleading -- I don't want people thinking they are getting a bargain at DDDVD when they might get it cheaper somewhere else. You should always shop around.

Meanstrosity, I just disagree that DDDVD is *the* reason Best Buy and Amazon have low prices. Amazon had low prices five years before DDDVD came along. And if DDDVD went away, there is still plenty of competition to keep prices competitive. They are not some magical DVD company.

That said, I heartily endorse the 20 percent discount. It's a great deal. If you've been wanting to buy some DVDs, this is a great deal.

Meant to note yesterday that the four DVDs I ordered got here really, really quickly. I watched 13 Rue Madeleine last night, so that still leaves three to watch over the next couple nights. Good times.

Yeah, they were out of stock on a couple of the Bogart films I need, so I settled for The Barefoot Contessa and The Stand-In from Bogart, and Ragtime and 13 Rue Madeleine from Cagney. Hopefully they improve their selection of both actors' films before the next sale.

Firefly is excellent. It was canceled for a number of reasons, but mainly it was poor ratings.

They did not have a final ending, and the story will continue on the big screen when the movie Serenity comes out in September.

there has been some horrible price increases prior to this sale from their normal price, mostly on TV show sets. So if youre buying those, I'd suggest you to shop around. And there are also multiple codes to use on this sale as previously. I know the codes DVDTALK and USATODAY are active again, along with others that I dont know off the top of my head, so you can do multiple orders, but only use each code once. And also, they do pricematch, but you cant get the 20% on top of a pricematch.

Minute Muffler. It doesn't do a very good job of muffling.

I got a heck of a deal on from an Internet/Mail Order place called oldies.com. I got a mailer from them, and the featured deal was the Complete Monty Python Flying Circus 14 DVD set for $49.95. The only catch was it was mail/fax orders only, no Internet orders for it.

most of the same codes from previous sales work:

DVDTALK
USATODAY
NYTIMES
SUPERSALE
DVDPRICESEARCH
SUMMERSALE
YAHOO
ESPN

and speaking of dvdpricesearch... I always use that site to make sure I'm getting the best price. even with the 20% off, sometimes DDD is not the best. they've risen prices lately due to competition.
