Job Market Cincinnati/Dayton

What's the job market looking like in the Cincy/Dayton area?

I have a job offer up there and to make it work the wife would need something to do, she's pretty flexible, she has management, database, customer service, and clerical experience.

Procter and Gamble is big up here, I would start there. Tropicana as well. I haven't been here too long but seems like there are a lot of pretty big companies up here, Great American Insurance is another big one and Harrahs also just opened a casino that could be hiring.

There is a large Cinci contingent on the board, so you will likely get some good feedback.

I can't really speak to it since I work out of St Louis now and my wife only does sub work for the school district in NKY. It seems that there are lots of opportunities and the area is quite stable in general.

We're looking to be in Warren County, my job will be in the Dayton area for sales, but figure being in between is the best of both worlds, if things go south I can get a job in Cincy. For my wife, she can go both ways.

Also, Kroger and Fifth Third Bank are database heavy. Data-driven marketing/market research firms like Nielsen, Catalina, and Dunnhumby have a big presence in Metro Cincy too...

While it is not quite as special as it used to be, Kings Island is worth going at least once. I would also recommend going to see a play or musical at Schuester Center. It is a very cool place to see those kinds of shows even if you're not a fan. I also agree with going to see a Dragons Game. If you're into it I would tell you to go to Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum. I haven't been in years but it was always cool. Hopefully, it still is. While I haven't been there yet, Scene 75 on the northern part of Dayton is supposed to be a lot of fun for families.

This. And if you like minor league hockey, the Cyclones are pretty good. I live right over the river in NKY, it's a great place to raise a family. Lots of great high school football in the fall.

The Zoo is great, get the family pass, well worth it. Free parking, etc...Just a fantastic way to spend an afternoon

Newport Aquarium- really nice aquarium just over the river. Lots of restaurants, movie theater, gameworks, all in one complex, just be warned, unless something has changed you can smoke in restaurants there.

Sports- as others have mentioned, Reds and Cyclones downtown are fun.

There is a childrens museum, not sure how the 11 year old would like it.

Jungle Jims is a fun quirky place to check out.

I am sure others who have been here longer can elaborate.

I enjoyed King's Island but Cedar Fair is good at what they do. Then again, if I lived in Cincy, I'd drive 4 hours and spend the night at Cedar Point and then spend the whole next day there on some weekday in May.

If they like football, let me know. If you're up for a fall game, the HS I teach at has a top 5 QB prospect. Drew Barker. School is literally right next to the Greater Cincinnati Airport over in NKY. We can meet up at a home game, and we'll stand over close to the sidelines for free. No problem at all.

I don't know if you were referring to Kings Island or Cedar Point but I'll throw out my Cedar Point story. I highly, highly, highly recommend doing this on a weekday in May. Do not be that guy who waits until a weekend in July when school is out and it's popular and you can only ride 4 rides all day. You'll be doing yourself a huge disservice. You run a real weather risk in May but, at the same time, you can have an amazing experience.

My wife and I went a couple of years ago and the first day it rained and we were really limited in the rides we could ride (tho Wicked Twister was kept open even during rain that felt like little bullets hitting your face) but when it wasn't raining that hard, we could still do things like ride Millennium Force 7 or 8 times. The real bummer is that at least half the rides were closed.

However, the second day, we were supposed to go to Canton but the weather was nice and sunny so we got halfway into Sandusky, turned around, and headed back. Everything was open and, for instance, the two times we rode Top Thrill Dragster, people in line were saying the sub-30 minute lines were the shortest they had ever seen. By the time we were done, our tally both days included at least 2 times on every major coaster and a couple more on some of our favorites, and more than 10 on Millennium Force. If you get that sort of experience, it's easily the best amusement park I've ever been to (tho my list is a little limited: the three Six Flags in Texas including the now-defunct Astroworld, and three Cedar Fair parks: Worlds of Fun, Kings Island, and Kings Dominion).

Plus, since it was the offseason, we could stay at the onsite hotel for like $70 and get the discount tickets and early entry so it was totally worth it. They even upgraded our rooms because they only had enough people to fill a smart part of the hotel so Obviously, YMMV, but it was one of the best experiences my wife and I have ever had visiting anywhere (tho if we had left after just 1 day, it would have been a little disappointing and incomplete with all the closed rides). I mainly attribute that to it being a weekday in May with the largest crowds being high schoolers walking around with school books trying to figure out physics problems at the park.

I worked at KI for 2 summers. it was the most fun job I ever had.

Silly me, I was considering Dayton only and not the suburbs of Cincinnati and Upper Sandusky. yeah, Reds games, bengals games, flyers basketball and div 1AA football.

Kings Island is fun. My wife works for Procter and Gamble. Every September they rent the park for a weekend and only employees and their families can go. No lines, tons of handouts, all free. A great way to go.

I've never experienced it as a commoner.

Love what I do, hate the boss. The move from a family standpoint is the best thing we could have done. The kids have acclimated well, schools are much better, great area for kids. My wife is still looking for a job, which has been hard on the finances, but we'll survive.

My job has been a pain in the ass. My predecessor went to a competitor and started sniping some accts. I staunched the bleeding there, but got no credit for it. My boss has given me conflicting directive depending on the day of the week, and it has been a cooler than normal year, so cooling sales were poor. That said, my customer base has realized I know my stuff and has slowly been bringing me into the fold which means better sales down the road, I just need time to get it done.
