An Amazing Personal Story!
As some of you probably know, my wife and I have one child, our 4 year old Caitlin. We've been trying for over 2 years to have another, and various medical issues have come up which have prevented us from conceiving. It has been frustrating, to say the least.
About a month ago my wife's OB/GYN suggested a slew of fertility tests to try to find out what is going on (or NOT going on). As part of that, he had me do a sperm analysis. Two weeks ago today, my wife met with him and found out that my count was so low that we would likely never have children again without use of in-vitro. They also gave my wife a pregnancy test which came back negative. Needless to say, we were devastated. He had me do a second analysis to confirm the findings, as well as a bunch of bloodwork to test for testosterone levels, etc. I got those results on Tuesday. Strangely, everything came back normal. That day, my daughter brought home a picture of her family that she had made at school, which included 4 of us. She also asked my wife if we could name her sister Kate. At the time, even with the second set of test results, the picture and her question were more heartbreaking than anything. We were scheduled to see the doctor next week to discuss the odd results we got. As of today, my wife was 10 days late, which is extremely out of the ordinary. So she had a blood test done this afternoon, and I just found out about an hour ago that she is pregnant! Is that not crazy? In the span of two weeks, we went from devastation - and having to tell the grandparents there likely would be no more - to absolute joy - and looking forward to the calls we'll be making tonight. I know there's a long way to go before we're safe, but I still can't get over the swing in emotions we've been through in such a short time. I'm also wondering if my daughter is psychic. Life is one crazy-ass adventure sometimes.

Awesome news!
Kinda spooky about your daughter, though. Especially if it does wind up being a girl. Maybe you need to ask her to pick out some lotto numbers for you...

Great news, Ksyrup, congrats! Very happy for you.
(Of course now if the baby comes out looking like the UPS man, you will suddenly come to realize what Brown can do for you, but congrats!)

Congrats, Ksyrup. That is great. I wanted to coment on this statement. If you don't like the nickname, don't name the child that! I have a sister-in-law who constantly is going behind us saying "Josh-U-AA" "Josh-U-A" if we ever call their son Josh. If you don't like Josh, name the kid something else!!!! |

I wanted to name my first son Jacob but I hate the name Jake so I had decided not to become that annoying person and name him something else. All other His middle name would be Joseph and JJ for a nickname has a nice ring to it.

A very nice turn of events. Regarding the nickname issue. I have always wanted to name a son Duncan. That is if I ever manage to slip one past the goalie again. In any case my wife strongly objects to the nickname Dunk. |

Thanks guys! And no, we won't use the name Kate. When we get to that point, I bet Caitlin won't even remember she mentioned it.

Oh, I'm sure she will, they have some very powerful selective memory, you know... Our son wants us to name his future young brother (due in January) Nemo, after the fish in that movie. We're working very hard to take his mind off of that idea... FM edit: typo...

Tuesday night I dreamt the bar on my freezer door broke. Wednesday afternoon, I open the freezer and the bar fell on the ground. One of these days I'm gonna harness my psychic powers...

So...if it's only been 6 weeks, and she starting to show already, does that mean we rolled doubles or triples? It wasn't like this the first time around.
I scared.

Oh Ohhhh
We went for the dog instead. They have a lot shorter delivery time and you do not have to worry sick when they turn 15 and start to use makeup. Hope everything goes fine. Best of luck. |

Manny, Moe, and Jack. Maybe I can get free auto repairs for life.
All I know is, I don't want to end up on the cover of People Mag - not until I get my teeth straightened out, anyway.

Two friends of mine had the same issue : he had a low count sperm issue and was already starting to engage into a big hospital study as he was an extremely rare case.
A few weeks after the test, he quit his job where he was extremely stressed and a few weeks later she was pregnant. She gave birth to Ewen 3 days ago ! How do you want to understand medecine... Congrats for the good news Ksyrup ! |

First exam is October 13th, I think. As I recall, we did the first ultrasound at that first exam, so if there's more than one, we may know then.
I did a bit of googling on the subject of "showing early" and for women who have had more than one, it is common, as the muscles and skin are not as taut as they were before the first one, so the normal bloating that occurs shows more. At least I hope that's the answer!
