FOFC 2003 Season Predictions
I was going to classify this as OT since it's about football.
How about a little pick'em action for the members of FOFC? I will post the season's games, one week at a time. After that the members may pick a final score for one of the games that week. Only the first guess for a game will be taken so if two people pick scores for the Redskins-Cowboys, than the first one will be taken. After each game has been picked I'll move to the next week. At the end we'll see how we think the season will end. I would hope to get serious picks in this and don't just say 49ers 95 Cowboys 0 because you're a 49ers fan. I'll keep our predictions and update everyone when the season starts to see how we fared. Okay, 1st week's games: Jets 17 @ Redskins 21 - Syrinx (16-13 Redskins) Cardinals 7 @ Lions 21 - TheLionKing Ravens 10 @ Steelers 14 - Coffee Warlord Broncos 17 @ Bengals 33 - RendeR Texans 14 @ Dolphins 49 - DolphinFan1 Colts 27 @ Browns 21 - Alf Jaguars 10 @ Panthers 17 - Radii Vikings 38 @ Packers 17 - mckerney Patriots 34 @ Bills 28 - BishopMVP Chargers 42 @ Chiefs 45 - MIJB#19 Rams 24 @ Giants 21 - tucker342 Falcons 28 @ Cowboys 14 - JeeberD Bears 24 @ 49ers 31 - Darkiller Saints 24 @ Seahawks 10 - SplitPersonality1 Raiders 35 @ Titans 17 - CK#12 Buccaneers 24 @ Eagles 17 - Axxon Last edited by EagleFan : 09-04-2003 at 11:19 PM. |

Not much interest in this thread, it seems. Maybe I should have added some straw man email with questions about the 2003 season to the start of the thread. Maybe I'll repost this at a political forum, they may talk football.
Back to the topic at hand: That had to be a tough call for you Jeeber. It should be interesting to see what our results are, if we can get through the season. |

I was going to propose something similar, but different. I have always beena "fan" of sports gambling, and used to bet quite a bit in high school. Since I don't do it now but I miss the thrill, I was going to propose some sort of FOFC betting game for the football season. (Not using real money, of course.) Each person is given an "account" with, say $1000 or so, and they can bet on games each week. The winner is the person with the most money in their "account" at the end of the year. Would anyone be interested in playing?

I would be up to that as well. This idea was more just to see how close we came, as a whole, to the regular season and not a contest type of thing.
I like that idea mrsimperless. Count me in. |

It would be a tad early for a contest, which this isn't, but what football fan has not already looked at the schedule and started to pencil in wins or losses for their team?
I actually do better with my picks at this time of the year than if I do them during the season, it takes all the worry about injuries and other crap (like how much has Randy Moss pissed off his team) out of the decision, just a pure gut response. |

Patriots 34 Bills 28. It was high-scoring both times they played last year, and the Pats beat Bledsoe again.

With the game being Marvin's first game and being in Cincinnati, I think the intangibles for that game go the Bengals favor. That and it will be Plummer's first start as a Donkey. I was there the last time Denver played at Paul Brown. I sat next to a Broncos fan who was sure of a victory over the lowly Bungles and loudly voiced that opinion leading up to the game. A record breaking 278 Corey Dillon yards later, he wasn't quite so loud. |

Very true, but, 33-17? I think the game will be very close. I'm just not convinced that the Bengals are going to be that much better this year. And don't forget it will be Palmer's first start as a Bengal.... |

Palmer's not starting this year. Kitna is. No great QB, but is familiar with the system and the receivers. He won't be asked to carry the team, that will be Dillon. Don't be surprised to see a pretty drastic improvement. There certainly is room for it. I think we will see the team has more talent than thought. As we find out how bad the attitude and work ethic really was around the team, the last 12 years are no surprise. For example, last year, off-season workouts usually attracted 4-6 people a session. (That is not an exaggeration) This year, the participation has been near 100%. Many of the team's woes the last few years can be attributed to conditioning. It would take half the season to work into game shape and by then, the losing had set in. They will have a solid O-line, a very good running back, a star in the making at WR in Chad Johnson complemented by a talented young corps. More importantly will be a revamped defense with anywhere from four to seven new starters. I'm not predicting playoffs as there was much room to improve, but if you followed the team, you'd know the changes have been drastic and improvement is almost certain. I think this team is probably good for six or seven wins with the tough schedule they play this season. I honestly believe one of those wins will be against the Broncos in week one. Although my prediction would be closer to 21-17. |

Thanks to Scooper for the very well stated reasoning for my pick of 33-17 over the broncos. I was leaning to say 24-17, but then thought about Marvin's history with defenses,a dn decided that Denver would be driving for the tying score and give up an interception or fumble which we get cheap points from.
hence 33-17 Bengals =) I hoenstly believe this team has playoff talent, but with this seasons schedule (Holy crap batman) I am just hoping for 8-8. Good luck everyone! |
