Baltimore Ravens Dynasty
2000 Baltimore Ravens
This career will serve as my long running career that I will hopefully keep going for many centuries. I will play this career in between the GroupThink Wyoming Wildfire endeavor (if I still have a job after a 2nd straight pathetic season) and any other challenges I take along the way. As with all of my long running careers, I will use only one house rule: common sense. You won't see me stockpiling draft picks, signing rookies to 7-year minsal deals, or renegotiating everyone's contract each season. I do, however, reserve the right to make any decision that comes to mind. If I have a backup QB that's wasting his career on the bench behind my veteran stud, I can trade him for a draft pick or two. If it's in the game, it's in the game. I started this career by randomly selecting the Ravens as my place to begin and throwing all players into an Allocation Draft. I set my focuses on running the ball and stopping the run. Here are the players that were assigned to Baltimore: QB Chris Redman 30/44 Obviously, I am short on talent at QB, WR, LB, and DB, but should not have a problem running the ball this year (or stopping opposing running backs for that matter). I head into preseason with the following starting lineups: QB Jeff Garcia RB Ricky Williams FB Sam Gash TE Rod Rutledge WR Laveranues Coles WR Craig Yeast LT Jonathan Ogden LG Steve Wisniewski C Jeff Mitchell RG Jeff Blackshear RT Willie Anderson K Jeff Wilkins P Tom Rouen KR Craig Yeast/Kevin Mathis DE Greg Ellis DT Chad Eaton DT Keith Hamilton DE Raylee Johnson LB Sam Cowart LB Jeff Kelly LB Eric Barton CB Tom Knight CB Kevin Mathis FS Je'Rod Cherry SS Kim Herring Preseason Results The Ravens go 2-2 in their first preseason, but are able to get through it injury-free. Our coach is only FAIR in avoid injury, but has great ratings otherwise. Neither scout or coach will probably be around after this season. I'd like to bring in my own guys. 2000 Regular Season Schedule We open up the season with a 23-7 loss at the hands of the Steelers. We could never get anything going offensively and also lost our #1 CB Tom Knight to a pulled groin. He'll miss a couple of games. In week 2, RB Ricky Williams gains 173 yards on 24 carries and finds the end zone a couple of times. The performance helps the Ravens notch their first win, 31-24, over the Jaguars. The Dolphins end my one-game win streak with a 13-10 win in Miami. We get back to .500 with a win over the Bengals, but our offense is still sputtering. We can not get anything right in the next two weeks, losing to the Browns, 10-6, and then the Jaguars, 35-25. We have avoided major injuries so far, with DE Raylee Johnson and CB Tom Knight the only players missing games. We rebound with a 20-10 win over the Redskins, who interstingly have already tied two teams this season. We are able to get back to .500 at the midway point with a 21-6 win over Tennessee. Chris Redman relieves Garcia in the win and will start in week 9 against division leading Pittsburgh. The Ravens can not climb over the .500 mark as the Steelers sweep the season series with a 28-17 win. A heartbreaking 31-28 loss to the Bengals drops us to 4-6 and our playoff hopes are in jeopardy. After Baltimore grounded out a couple of consecutive wins to reach 6-6, we find ourselves in 2nd place in the division. We bring everything together in our most complete game in week 13, beating Cleveland 31-6. We head into our late bye week with a 7-6 record. We drop our week 15 game to San Diego, 14-7. The loss takes us out of the final playoff spot and must make up a game on Miami, Indy, and the NY Jets to have a shot at the playoffs. We split our last two, which is not good enough to get us in the playoffs. We manage just 274 points while allowing a AFC low 246 points. Only Atlanta gave up fewer, allowing 245. We end up with a 2nd place finish in the Central behind the Steelers (12-4). Pittsburgh ends up with a Super Bowl championship, defeating the Buccaneers 10-6. Safety Orlando Thomas is named MVP.
