Levon Helm, we hardly knew ye.

Levon Helm's website is reporting that the 71 year old singer and drummer for The Band has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The greatest lead singing drummer (yeah Phil, Ringo, Don Henley, and Dave Grohl he's the best). Plus he's the inspiration to my favorite Elton John song.

I know it's Richard singing, and there aren't even any drums, so we only notice Levon in backup vocals. But the song itself is perfect.

Finally, other singing drummers off the top of my head - Phil Collins, Dave Clark, ...
