Ender Wiggin Series
I had no idea they were working on a sequeal to Ender's Game. Orson Scott Card has released Ender in Exile, which comes after Ender's Game, but before Speaker for the Dead.
Amazon.com: Ender in Exile (Ender): Orson Scott Card: Books

Yeah, came out last week.
I'm a little torn. I thought the Bean series was "okay," but it has kind of felt like Card has gone to the Ender well a little too often. Saw Ender in Exile at work the other day, and I'm not sure if I'm actually going to read it or not. |

I enjoyed Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I enjoyed Speaker for the Dead and Xenocided decidedly less. I think I've also read Shadow of the Hegemon, but the fact that I can't remember if I had should tell you whether that was any good (if I, in fact, did read it).

I'm currently trudging through Xenocide. I flew through Ender's Game and enjoyed Speaker for the Dead, but this one has taken me a while.
So is this book meant to be read between Game and Dead or at the end of the series? Just trying to decide if I should pick it up now or go to Half Price Books and look for Children of the Mind instead...

I think Speaker for the Dead is brilliant, but in a completely different way than Ender's Game, which is my all time favorite book. The rest of the Speaker's line is pretty not worth it. I nearly gave up on the Ender's Shadow line (which is a good book, though not for how it reinvents certain aspects of the universe) but it did get better.

I agree that Speaker for the Dead is excellent, but really different in every way from the original Ender's Game. Hard for me to pick one favorite all-time book, but Ender's Game would without question be in the running. Top five easily.

Ditto to Ender's Game and Shadow. Other than those two books though, I'm not a big fan. |

There are definitely some stories, books and movies that should be left to stand alone.

Ender's Game is my #1 favorite book of all-time and it isn't even close.

Not sure. Timeline wise It is between Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, so I would imagine as long as you have read Ender's Game (and perhaps Ender's Shadow) it's probably a good time to read it, but I won't know until I read it for myself.

As a librarian, I endorse this message. I think this is admirable restraint and think it's a completely logical and good thing to do.

I thought Ender's Game was an OK book, but I was a little underwhelmed given how much praise I've seen heaped on it. I probably read it later in life than a lot of folks I guess (~23 years old or so). I also read it just after I finished OSC's time-travel story about Columbus (Redemption? Can't remember the exact title), which I thought was a MUCH better book.
I did read a few of the Ender's sequels for some reason, but I can't remember the titles or much of the story, just that I didn't particularily enjoy them.

are we ever going to see "Hive Queen & the Hegemon" is my question? He seems to have been teasing us with that idea for years now...probably if he's intending to write it he's having trouble with it I guess...
edit: and apparently he doesn't intend to write them. I guess I can understand not writing "Life of Human" as we sort of get most of that, but I want more nitty-gritty about Peter, and I also want to know wtf was up with the formics more Last edited by DaddyTorgo : 11-24-2008 at 04:46 PM. |

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Ender in Exile. Thoughts in the spoiler tags, though I won't really be saying anything specific about the plot.
